Bale's accent

I have to say, he slipped in and out of his German accent too often for my liking. One of his weaker roles, in my opinion. Maybe he didn't have that great of a dialect coach.

Bale was born in whales, and he spent most of his childhood and adult life in england, portugal, and the US. He has no german accent, if you meant to say that he was slipping in and out of "some" accent, then yes...i agree. Sometimes he says words "funny", then he'll say the same word again in a normal manner. I think it was too few to notice though. His screaming for the choppers, as an example, really elevated his english accent, just because american's do not scream like that, we dont scream "oyyyyy", we scream HEY

He's English and he might've sounded German because Bale is such a method actor and the man he was playing was a German immigrant.

He did sound German, but only in the end (when he says 'When the glass is full,' it comes out 'Fool,' which is the German pronunciation of the word) and possibly in the beginning. At first I thought that the character's accent changed because he to adapt to surroundings and conditions totally different than what he was used to before, and he was around different people. ? Dunno about that one. But sometimes he sounded full-blooded American and sometimes he had a slight German accent.

Bale takes no role lightly. He sounded like a man who came to the states from Germany as a boy. My father was from Austria and came at 9 and pronounced certain words unlike an American.

The real Dieter Dengler sounded almost enteirely American too me, only a bit German. And it's "voll" btw, doesn't sound like "fool".

Bale actually discussed the accent on Charlie Rose when he was promoting the movie. He explained that Dieter Dengler's accent was not a typical German accent since he was from the Black Forest region plus the fact that he came to the US at a young age also affected his accent. As a result, Dengler's speech pattern in real life was not a typical German accent.

Yep. Bale is such a great actor :)

I read in wikipedia that the real Dieter had a heavy German accent, having migrated to the US already in his 20s. He had absolutely no german accent in this movie. Kind of dissapointed at Bale for not even trying.
