Christian Bale in the Empire of the Sun could possibly be the same role?

What if 20 years later (the movie also came out about twenty years later than the Empire of the sun) he changed his identity, moved to USA (as he wanted to be with the americans in the EOTS) and joined the army there as because of his love to military planes? He did crash a plane in Rescue dawn and he was the one flying it so maybe he just wanted to fulfill his dream and therefor did change his identity and moved to USA?
