several questions (spoilers)

Didn't anyone notice that men in Rockwell Falls put the names of their wives in the pot to select the one that needs to commit the suicide for the benefit of their society? What about the husbands themselves? Their sacrifice doesn't count?

Why wasn't it ackward to Steve's friend in Chicago to receive a typed letter (very formal) with the picture of Steve and Courtney (very personal)?

Dr. Greaver says that for generations his family cures people in Rockwell Falls. Has he a heir? Someone to continue his work (lobotomies, electric shocks etc.)? Because he and his wife are pretty old and I doubt that that "gorilla" in his house who doesn't speak a word is capable to continue his work.

Why did Steve and Amanda manage to cross the border of Rockwell Falss and technically leave the town when on the other hand, Ray died before managing to cross that border and Courtney fell off her horse also before the border (if she intended to cross it)?

What do you think about those?

Thanks!

My theory on the men being the only voters is that Rockwell is an old fashioned town full of good ol boys and their nice little wives who make blueberry muffins and sh*t.

Just my own adventurous opinion on why Steve and Amanda managed to get out of the town line only to be killed. This movie seems to depict God the way the Old Testament does. Very severe and vengeful, punishing those very severely who disobey him. It makes me mad, because I don't feel like I'd wanna abide a God like that, but this movie refuses to say whether or not the people in RF are idiots, or if they're correct.

They don't only put their wives' names in the pot. Only the heads of households attend the selection, but everyone's name goes into the pot. That's why Ray was fleeing at the beginning. You could see the piece of paper with his name on it on the dashboard of his truck; he'd been chosen (because of the baby's birth) and didn't want to die.

It was awkward. He was clearly suspicious. That's one of the reasons he came out to investigate.

Yes, you would have thought he'd have trained someone up. The big bloke was presumably his son (he's credited as Ronald Greaver), but doesn't appear to be very bright.

We don't know how the town works. Ray hit one of the potholes at speed, which is why he crashed. Courtney's horse actually appeared to shy because Kady's car drove past. It may be that there isn't any actual forcefield around the town. People just know they'll die if they leave, so mostly they don't. Note that at the end a towtruck drives past Frank and the sheriff bringing the wreck of Kady and Amanda's truck back to town. That's presumably driven by one of the townsfolk. So presumably they can leave if they intend to come back.
