So.................

...what's the Stranger's big secret? I played the game at a friend's but he had to return it before I got to that part. And now that he no longer has an Xbox(and since I know of no one else who has one), I'll probably never find out for myself. So could someone please fill me in?

I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

SPOILER BELOW

Stranger's big secret is that he is a Steef, which is apparently a rare and endangered species in Oddworld. To describe a Steef, basically, is to picture Stranger with the legs of a horse, and Stranger was saving money to have his two back legs surgically removed so that he could hide his real identity.

Another big secret at the end, when you defeat Sekto (the high-industrial corporate Steef-head-collecting top villian of the game who sets out a $20,000-reward for Stranger, the Steef) is surprisingly a Steef himself!

Hope that shed some light on your question.

Thank you!! So he's kinda like a centaur? (sorry if that's way off, but I'm just guessing)

reply

CENTAUR! That's what I wanted to say to describe him more in a nutshell! Lol!

Yes, picture him with the body of a centaur and that's a steef ;-)

Gotcha - one more thing: might you know where I can find a picture of the Stranger with all 4 legs out? I'm guessing he must look quite majestic (prob.).

I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

I'll do you one better...

It's the ending cutscene for the game. Enjoy!

.....Wow, thank you. Thank you very very much.

You're quite welcome. And go buy an Xbox along with that game and Munch's Oddysee and experience two of the many greatest Xbox games ever made. Or, wait until they become compatible with the 360 and get that instead!

reply

Well, two actually:

1) In the cutscene, it look like Stranger's wearing a helmet or something with horns on it, but when he flips the other guy over, it looks like he had horns that were cut off. My question is, if Stranger's horns weren't part of the helmet, how the heck did he hide them? I don't see how they'd've fit under that hat.
2) You remember that Oddworld game that was cancelled, the main character's name was Fangus or something? Is it just me or does he slightly resemble a buffed-up Stranger? (saw a picture in Game Informer, I think-once again this could just be my weird perception of things)

I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

1) Stranger cut his horns off as well (he's trying to hide the fact that he's a Steef, let's not forget) That armor that he was wearing was a part of his Steef-ancestry. If I remember the story correctly, his kind protected the Grubbs (I think that's what they're called) against wild savages who would rob and pillage them and stuff like that.

2) I doubt that Fangus is or was a Steef. Though he could be of a closely-related species?

I miss OI. I hope they don't scrap the Oddworld movie.

Also, Sekto the Steef was possessed by a demon. That's why he was killing of his own kind. You see the demon swimming away in the river at the end.

and yes it was the Grubbs. With Steefs thought to be extinct there's no one to protect the Grubbs. That's why they scream and scatter when you go through their little villages.

It's been a while since i played it but i remember the ancestoral(sp?) armor the Grubbs give him has some power, and they grow his horns back. then as you progress from that point and the grubbs give you better armor, the horns get bigger and bigger.

The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot. "Fangus is a shepherd who dutifully wards off predators, until one day, invaders arrive. Fangus is then forced to rise to the occasion, assuming the role of savior of all Oddworldian nations. Meanwhile, rabies slowly begins to turn him mad, and he must make haste in thwarting the invaders' plans before his mind is completely lost."

that's a brief plot description that was given to Game Informer. it's possible he was related to Steefs. they are both guardians. the game was going to have an "M" rating. with todays videogame audience i think OWI wouldn't be so bad off now if that had made that instead of Stranger. not to say i'm disappointed, i loved Stranger's Wrath.
