Who Is It? Solid Snake Or Big Boss?

I've played Metal Gear Solid and Sons of Liberty, both on PC, but I just got a PS2 (I know I'm way behind the times) and was going to buy this game and all the others on playstaion format.

One thing I dont understand is, and me and my friend always argue about this, who is Snake from Snake Eater? I thought, since its soo far back, like the 1960's that the Snake we play as in this prequel game is actually Big Boss and NOT Solid Snake?!

As far as I know, Solid Snake, Liquid and Solidus were all clones of Big Boss, so if it is Big Boss whom we play as in Snake Eater, it would explain why Solid Snake looks the way he does (being a clone and all) But is Snake from Snake Eater Big Boss or Solid Snake? He later loses an eye right? Didn't Big Boss have an eye patch? If it is Solid Snake in Snake Eater, and he who loses the eye, why doesn't he still have an eye patch in the later games such as Metal Gear Solid and Sons of Liberty?

I'm very confused about this, someone explain it once and for all, is it Solid Snake in this game or Big Boss?

It is Big Boss. Someone even refers to him as Big Boss at the end of the game. Big Boss got an eye patch after losing his eye in the torture room. And throughout the rest of the game and in Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake he has that eye patch. So it is Big Boss.

Interesting... My friend has completed Snake Eater, so he should know this. I havent even got it yet, but am going to get the subsistence one. He seems to think that it is Solid Snake, but if it was snake, he looks like he's in his early 30's there, so by the time of Sons of Liberty, he should look somewhat like he does in Guns of the Patriots...

But I'll have to find a way to convince my friend that it is Big boss :P

big boss wasnt a woman dumbass, her name was The Boss. naked snake (the guy you play in mgs3) defeats her in the end and gets the title Big Boss

Ocelot seems to be The Boss's and The Sorrow's son, MGS3 gives many clues to that, you know that she had the baby 20 years ago and you know that Ocelot is 20 years old..
The baby was taken away by the Philosophers (?) and Ocelot was raised by them.. and few other things

axelorn you are absolutely.................right! I read somewhere a while back that Ocelot actually was the son of The Boss and The Sorrow. This would explain Ocelot's "psychic powers" because The Sorrow had the same abileties, only a lot stronger I pressume. Also it is said that Liquid-Ocelot wears glasses resembeling The Sorrow's glasses in MGS4.......

The MGS universe is a tough thing to wrap your head around. Try to hard and it might blow up.

Given Ocelot's inherited clairvoyance powers from his father, The Sorrow, it makes a lot more sense that Liquid was able to take over Ocelot's mind when his arm was grafted to him.

The Snake that we are in control of in Snake Eater is just plain old Snake up until the end when he is given the title Big Boss. For Sons of Liberty, Solid Snake is who we are in control of. Big Boss is killed sometime before Sons of Liberty actually takes place. I suggest looking up a timeline for anyone who is confused about this. I was extremely confused after playing Snake Eater and having only played Metal Gear Solid and MGS2: Sons of Liberty. Seeing as how they're not in the right chronological order, it left me trying to figure it out for like an hour before I decided to just give up and find one myself. Ocelot is the son of The Boss and The Sorrow, he is born on the same date and same location as The Boss's kid.

You're correct.
Naked Snake(the guy we play as in MGS3) IS Big Boss. He receives that title after he defeats The Boss. Big Boss is already dead by the time Sons of Liberty takes place. Solid Snake is the guy we play as in MGS and MGS2. Don't get Big Boss confused with Solid Snake. Just remember that Solid Snake is a clone of Big Boss, or his "son".
Oh and by the way, Solidus Snake is the guy with the eyepatch in MGS2 not Big Boss. Solidus Snake's eyepatch is on his left eye while Big Boss had his eyepatch on his right. Just making that clear, if anyone didn't know.

Yea and Liquid looks like Solid but long blonde hair and a better villain than Solidus.

It has to tie them together. Kojima SAID after MGS4 hes done with the series.

It's ends up being Big Boss. Naked Snake is a cheap carbon copy of Solid Snake's character, which I thought was quite lazy.

Actually Solid Snake is the inferior copy of Big Boss! Liquid being the superior! True Story.
