it brought a tear to my eye watching pink floyd, just gotta say they blew alot of the younger bands off of the stage in terms of performances, they were and still are one of the most amazin bands on the planet,

even though roger is losing his voice (to put it politely), they were still the best act by far.

for an encore, bob geldof is going to make pigs fly...

I was there and it was very emotional for me, at 32. As I mentioned on another board, Pink Floyd was like some urban myth to me, some band that was great but I would never get to see. The fact that I was there was beyond amazing, the fact that I was a part of history, the fact that the event made up for every concert I never saw as a teenager, amazing.

Pink Floyd has been my favorite band since 1988. I've seen Roger live twice now but never got to see Floyd (their "Momentary Lapse" tour was winding down when I got into them, and "Division Bell" sold out before I could get a ticket here in Wisconsin)...like most Floyd fans I've watched rumors come and go about a reunion and always shrugged them off as not credible...I couldn't believe that they actually did it. Yes, I cried...especially during "Wish You Were Here". I hated what MTV did to "Comfortably Numb" though.

Somebody has probably already posted it (or indeed you know anyway), but the entire set (plus sweary intro tape which was oddly faded-out on the Western European BBC feed, strange concidering it was broadcast live at about 11PM GMT and that Razorlight, Snoop Dogg, Madonna, U2, Velvet Revolver and Green Day had all cursed during their pre-watershed (9PM) sets) is included on the 4 DVD set (the track listing can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Live-8-Claire-Popplewell/dp/B000BHHVPO/sr=8-1/qid=1160055344/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6606677-2345710?ie=UTF8&s=dvd).

There is also about 10 mins of rehearsal/interview footage of the floyd among the bonus features.

YES! Pink Floyd was awesome at Live 8. They're my second favorite band (behind The Beatles).

Have to admit, i've become a massive fan of them since seeing that set.
Also was able to work out the guitar tab for Money, Wish You Were and Comfortably Numb from that set too, not that hard to play, i'll try and post it up on Ultimate-Guitar soon. :)

The first gig I ever saw was Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' at Earls Court in 1981 - it was the last time that Floyd Mark II played live in the UK, so was very happy to see them doing Live 8 last year, Took me back to my younger, more innocent days!

They were certainly the best thing on the show IMHO - and it was great to see so many younger members of the audience enjoying their music, great selection of songs as well, very apt for the day.

If you seen it yet, get the DVDs of 'The Wall', and especially 'Live at Pompeii' - both are excellent snapshots of the Floyd career. There was also a programme on BBC 2 a year ago in the 'Classic Albums' series on 'Dark Side of the Moon' - I think it is out on DVd that is also worth getting to see how one of the greatest albums (CDs to you young ones!!) was created.

You were REALLY lucky to see them in 1981, The Wall LIVE! That rocks all get out. Anyway, the Pink Floyd reunion rocked the casbah. Of course I have Pompeii and The Wall (with a tie-in back to Live 8 because it stars Bob Geldoff). Both highly reccomended. Awesome live version of Echoes!

I'd heard some Pink Floyd songs, but I never knew what they looked like. When they came on, I was blown away.

Deep Purple was better....

I think The Who were better. If I remember rightly, The Who came on shortly after Razorlight. When they openend with Who Are You the energy was amazing and it was almost like an unspoken "ok son, you've had your fun, now this is how the real men play" to Razorlight. They showed all the new bands up as pap. I loved it.

The Who came on pretty soon after Robbie Williams (I dare say that the two acts may have shared some equipment, a-la the very quick change over between Snow Patrol and the Killers)

---- "ok son, you've had your fun, now this is how the real men play" ----

I think you've nailed it. The who blew the Floyd off stage, definatly. They were great. So much energy, no came near to them in that respect. Razorlight incidently played about 4 hours ealier just befor Madonna and put on a good enough show. However I still wish Razorlight had, along with Travis, had been the one of the two acts to be dumped from the London bill, not Muse (who are the only genuinly great live rock band out there) and the Cure.

I always thought if waters came back with pink floyd they would do another tour

To be honest, I was just so stunned to see the four of them together again that I didn't really care how good they were.
