I would say either Coldplay in (loving the fact that they did a bit of Rockin' All Over The World!), Elton John and Pete Doherty (even though Pete was strung out on smack), Will Smith or Madonna. I didn't think a lot of Robbie Williams, he made it too much about himself as usual. Honourable mention has to go to Bob Geldof for the crowd-pleasing rendition of I Don't Like Mondays, and Peter Kay for the impromtu rendition of Amarillo!

i saw the whole thing on the bbc (1pm-12 midnight)and pink floyd were the best, especialy as they hate each other. i also loved the stereophonics performance, there not even half as famous as most of the acts, but you couldn't tell from the ordiances reaction. worst part about the gig for me, no radiohead.

I really liked Robbie Williams and the start with paul and U2

reply

Robbie Williams didn't even need to sing and the crowd were psyched up. I call that a good entertainer. I think he was the best perfroamcne, though not the best muscican.

Don't count R.E.M. out either. The lead singer (forgot his name) with the blue paint really got the crowd going in no time.

All of the artists mentioned above did a fantastic show, but the best were absolutely Green Day, the crowd went crazy and that long scream? Amazing.

reply

I wasn't impressed with how Maroon 5 did Rockin' in the Free world especially how Neil Young did that as a finale act in Barrie.

The Hyde Park Finale Act was the best, as was the opening act in Hyde Park... Of course those were meant to be extra good.. I don't know don't ask hard questons.

Bob Geldof was fantastic he is the greatest man on the planet, snow patrol, razorlight didnt get the attention that they deserved either

I enjoyed most of it, except Mariah Carey, couldn't even watch her. Madonna was amazing, U2, of course Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams is just fantastic, it was all good! Bob Geldof is an angel.

I am waching th rebroadcast just to see pink floyd and then i will prolly go look for the killers. The finale was good. My one thing is that i have no idea why everyone thinks U2 was so great. To be honest, they really don't sound like a rock band as much as a radio friendly pop act. I completely respect them for spearheading this Africa help stuff, but i really thought they were boring.

And their drummer is not that good.

Maroon 5?...Green Day??? Now you're making me sick.

I was alittle dissapointed with U2's performance, they just lacked a spark, it felt a little flat to me. Maybe it was just the song choice, I would've preferred Sunday bloody sunday. Poor mans U2, Coldplay, put in a world class performance, so I'll give it to them.

reply

Greenday would have been the best...had they not done American idiot. Not the right song to sing on a peaceful protest to influenct the G8. Macca and U2-there couldn't have been a better opening.

If you laugh at me because I'm different, I'll pity you because you're all the same.

reply

Nah...still think they suck as a live act.

London: Pink Floyd
Philadelphia: Kaiser Chiefs

Pink Floyd were the absolute highpoint, Comfortalby Numb took my breath away!

I also liked The Killers (just one song, but a great one),The Who was good but not brilliant and the rest was OK (Sting had a good voice).
Still,Pink Floyd were the greatest and that's no surprise (although I hoped that they would play the beautiful "Us and Them",that would have brought tears to my eyes).

for me the highlights were U2, Madonna, Annie.........but for best performance it had to be Richard Ashcroft and Coldplay with Bitter Sweet.

I got chills down my spine, Richard's voice was truly *beep* amazing and the best shot was the one of all of them playing at a 'side-angle' - ya know, cameraman capturing all five moving up and down same time, but esp showing front of piano with Chris behind it......one amazing shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was at the Philly show, and it was great to finally see people like Bon Jovi and Dave Matthews live. But, I wish I could have gone to the London show. I think Richard Ashcroft and Coldplay with Bitter Sweet was brilliant and I'd love to get an mp3 of it.

Anyway, if you guys wanna see a few pics, I have a folder at:
