Well, it's true that rednecks exist all over this country, not just the south.
But the NASCAR thing is a little off. Actually, there is a NASCAR race that takes place in Joliet at Chicagoland Speedway every year, or perhaps maybe twice a year. Besides, NASCAR has been broadcast on network television for years and years, and I would not doubt that it has been shown in Chicago. So him being a lifelong Chicago resident is actually quite feasible.
By the way, I've noticed that this post is a little old, but I thought I'd just clarify. I do enjoy NASCAR for reasons other than simply "watching a bunch of rednecks driving around in circles for two or three hours".
And on other posts below, I quite resent how people on here are still portraying or viewing LTCG's fans as inbred and totally lacking of any acumen or astuteness.
Isn't it possible that some people, from idiots to Rhodes scholars, can find this movie just silly? I'd think so. It's a movie that can be included in some peoples "guilty pleasure" category.
