this movie in a nutshell (if you're curious)

this is a movie about the irony of technology. technology is supposed to help us do everything faster and more efficiently. therefore it's ironic that when we apply technology to communication, it becomes stunted and awkard. this movie shows three different people who, because of their dependence of technology, experience unhealthy and awkward expectations and perspectives towards their relationships with other people. one of them has a porn addiction, one of them only experiences his relationship through his cell phone and one of them is dependent on emailing and using technology to create art. all three of these people are not able to function socially because of technology, even though technology is supposedly the "savior" of man and what not. the point of the movie is to point out the irony here. it's also ironic that even though mankind is progressing faster and faster technologically, we're becoming less and less able to communicate effectively with each other because we use technology as a crutch, rendering our advancements sort of useless.

therefore, the "poor" acting in this movie basically intentional; consider what kind of characters these people are supposed to be... outcasts, social deviants and generally awkward people. also this isn't focused on the story, so of course there isn't a strong story, it's supposed to just be a collection of scenes that speak for themselves. the viewer should have an emotional response to these images, just like a piece of art doesn't spell everything out. man has to ascribe meaning to what he experiences, it isn't handed to him.

So, you're basically saying it's going over what every person over 45 complains about? There are dozens of magazine and op-ed articles covering this, I hardly see why someone would feel the need to make a movie entirely about this.

That would be like making a movie representing how work sucks (Clerks, Office Space) but taking out the jokes and exploration into causes and implications.

That would leave the movie to be a simulation of a *beep* work day. Do people really need that simulated? or, if they do, wouldn't a documentary be a better and more interesting way to look at this?
