According to the website www.shadowsonthewall.co.uk
"The title refers to the Nazi youth activities organisation"

reply

Believe that it relates to the "strength through joy" movement as in the film the characters watch one of these nazi propaganda movies in a cinema, and afterwards the main charcter makes reference to it in the voice-over narration.

reply

Didn't get that bit - remember the cinema scene.

Did expect it to be about Joy-Division 'House of Dolls'. then when watching thought it was either meant to be a Russian army version Joy-Division, or one of these 'film maker' ironys, cos the films not very joy-ful!
