I just read on IMDb that this movie is banned in Malaysa. I think the book has also been banned from some schools. Anybody know why?

I think it was banned from some schools because some kids after reading the book started to eat worms. I don't know why it's banned from Malaysia though. Where on imdb did you read that? I didn't see it under Trivia...

Malaysia bans everything.

Even if kids started to eat worms...so what!? This is considered food by people all around the world. As long as you clean them and squeeze out the excrement, they can't hurt you.

Nevertheless, I can't imagine this being a widespread problem.

I live in Canada and my sister jsut read this book in school. I don't understand why some people would actually go and eat worms after reading it...

I read in a forum a while ago some BS about it being banned in schools because its main character is shown caving in to peer pressure, and that's not a positive behavior for children to emmulate or some crap like that...

or maybe it was because it promotes illegal gambling??? i dunno...

all i know is i read this in grade school and gave a book report on it and my teacher hadn't read the book and thought i'd made it all up, so she asked to borrow the book to read it, and that was the last i saw of it... my teacher stole my How to eat fried worms!!!!

anyway, i think it's stupid to ban it, 'cause that book rocked!
