It's remarkable...

how many posters have no idea the source novel was written in the mid-70s, or even that there was a source novel. They blame the movie for not being contemporary enough, when it's very obviously a period piece. They don't understand anything outside their own absurdly restrictive age/time zone.

people probably went to this movie with zero pre-existing context or research on it. i read the book before the movie and i *beep* loved both. i also hate how people just expect movies now to be mentally cheap, easy to understand, flashy explosions, straight forward plot, pure entertainment etc. people should remember that film is an art form and not all art is supposed to be enjoyable or attractive. this movie was definitely evocative and made you think but i guess people don't enjoy thinking anymore. it was refreshing to see something so different be made today.
