Home Decorating - keeping objects placed etc...

I'm in home decorating hell!

I've finished the whole of the main story, done the arena and most of the side quests, and am looking forward to working my way through the guilds.

But...

I've become obsessed with arranging my items and battle souvenirs in my homes, and spend literally HOURS painstakingly placing and arranging items. But it's been driving me CRAZY that there are no weapons/armour racks included in the game, and no way of mounting shields (or anything) on walls.

In desperation I've downloaded a mod or two, but no success. (I didn't want to get into messing with mods, but I was getting so frustrated with carefully placed items falling down and bouncing across the floor every time I re-entered a home, that in the end I gave it a half-hearted try with mods).

I'm no expert with mods, so I'm hoping someone can help!

The game is great, and I've already pre-ordered Skyrim (and booked my PC for an upgrade of RAM and new graphics card!). But the hours I'm spending replacing previously arranged items every time they bounce off across the room is actually starting to spoil the fun for me. Silly, I know, but there you are!

Can anyone recommend a mod that:-

1) Adds racks for displaying weapons, shields, armour etc.
2) Makes placing/arranging items less hellish.
3) Does NOT affect existing decor.
4) Does NOT change any existing items in the game. Only adds some.

I'm guessing that by now most of the Oblivion experts have moved over to the Skyrim board, so I'll post a message there directing any help to this thread.

Thanks.

Imperial Furniture (Renovated edition)

pretty much adds 1, 3 and 4

Decorator Assistant also helps placing movable items and i think you can freeze them in place.

to use both of them you'll need

Oblivion Script Extender.

I also suggest

Oblivion Mod Manager.

Thanks, dude.

By chance I found the exact same mods yesterday, and have been using them with great success and satisfaction. It's good to know that I found ones someone else would recommend though! Cheers.

My homes are now, perhaps, somewhat... over decorated... but what the heck! (I've definitely gone overboard with the candles, but it looks soooo pretty! LOL)

I've also now upgraded my PC, with double the RAM and a top-spec graphics card, and I've been playing (for the first time ever on an RPG) with the video settings maxed. WOW!!! It runs perfectly, and the scenery is gorgeous. For fun, I took my black stallion on a gallop round the entire map. It's nice to unwind and take in some views in-between kicking ass, eh?

If you had a mind to, you could even use the Construction set that modders use and make your own home exactly how you wanted.

I've been considering it, but not until I've totally played the game through, including every single side quest and conceivable adventure. (It went considerably against the grain for me to start using any sort of mods before finishing the game 'vanilla' first, but I was getting so frustrated with my decorating efforts that I took drastic action!)

Years ago, when I became obsessed with Dungeon Siege, I got very heavily into modding - for the first time in my life. I learned how to use Siege Editor (and all the other associated DS editing softwares) to not only make mods for the existing game, but also create a whole new playable game - fully voiced by professional actors (I'm related to a few!) and with a storyline based on one of my favourite (at the time) series of fantasy novels.

I got quite a long way into it... and then lost my momentum. It remains unfinished.

In the years since, I've forgotten most of what I learned during that very intense period of activity. So the idea of starting the learning process again now is slightly daunting. Having said that, I think the mechanics of Oblivion lend themselves much more to the sort of project I was attempting with the DS editor, and there is way more scope and flexibility. DS is only a 3rd person point-and-click. And you can't ride horses!

Anyway, I'm not ruling the construction set out, but I've a lot of hours of gameplay remaining first... and Skyrim already ordered from Amazon.
