Don't be fooled - This movie is GREAT!

I admit that Automatons isn't for everyone. Folks who won't accept anything but the production values of traditional, commercial film are bound to be SEVERELY disappointed. But if you've got a taste for cheap & inventive backyard filmmaking and are willing to meet it halfway, it's pretty damn charming.

I loved the spirit, inventiveness, and look of this film. Great gore, great/hilarious "robot action", wonderful textures -- and the use of obvious toys for the exterior shots is genius. My kind of movie through and through.

My only real criticisms relate to the acting (with the exception of Angus Scrimm, almost impossibly wooden) and the padding. Could easily cut down everything leading up to the final assault/climax to about 30 minutes without harming the film.

Still, even accounting for those flaws, I pretty much loved it. Recommended to fans of low-rent oddball filmmaking everywhere.
