The thing that gets me the most is this: These people feel so passionately about becoming these characters, making this fantasy life, and taking it so seriously. . .you'd think they'd be better actors. I can understand LARP, but watching darkon was like watching a bad movie. They didn't even sound like they believed what they were saying. The whole confrontation between bannor and the other guy couldn't have been less convincing or believable. I just think it's funny that professional actors are better at faking it than real people who actually believe mean it.
shareI think the 'wars' and nerdy aspect of it all were a minor part of the movie. I'm glad it didn't just show the game, it delved into the lives of the players. It's sort of touching on some levels.
shareWell, to be fair, what they do involves a lot of improv, rather than working from a script; a lot of professional actors aren't good at improv either.

99% of people can't act for sh*t, even if they enjoy what they're doing. plus, these people don't believe they're actually in a mystical world called darkon, they're just pretending. when you pretended to be robocop or ken griffey jr as a kid, was your performance any better? if you pretended to be them now, could you truly improvise a believable rendition that holds up compared to a scripted film portrayed by professional actors?
