Can we stop trashing Kids Movies

Ok. I just have one quick thing to vent. I think we (myself included) over analyze movies sometimes, especially kids films. Just about every single kid theme movie gets like a 1-3 out of 10 on this site and critics trash the mess out of them as well. I think it is important to know what target audience fims of this caliber are targeted towards. If our kids, someone else's kids or heck any kids enjoy the movie then mission is accomplished. I seriously doubt when producers, directors, writers, actors, etc. take these roles looking to win Oscars or anything. These movies are not for us so lets stop hating so much!! I hate even looking at threads when it comes to children's films because I automatically know it will be trashed. And if anyone goes into these movies actually looking for an A+ film then please lower your standards (haha). Just remember when we were young we saw some movies that we absolutely loved as children that I'm sure our parents truly hated.

Why should we stop trashing "kids movies"? You do realize "kids" movies can be incredible, don't you? Look at Pixar, and for that matter, look at classic 2D Disney.

I am SO SICK of everyone acting like just because it's "for kids" it has to be stupid beyond all reason. Just STFU!

reply

Calm down man. I don't have any beef with you. I'm just making a point. I used to work with kids and we would show them all these stupid movies like Daddy Day Care and so on and they would go nuts over them. I'm also not saying that kid movies can't be incredible because your point is valid as far as some movies that are put out that are really good. It is also important to note that the majority of the time these movies are good is because they actually have more adult humor than kid humor. However, I think it is ok to not like movies of this caliber but I think reviews for this should be based more on if you would take your kids to see it. If you kids enjoyed it than hey it was worth it. You can vent and talk about how ridiculous the movie is and all but I'm just saying don't forget who movies like this are targeted towards.

reply

hey OP i agree with you 100% it's funny how many critics are bashing kid's movie and spend a week writing "professional" reviews on it. Some ppl actually waste time bashing it let alone watching it. I havent seen this movie and I intend not to coz i know what i'm gonna get from it, but why the hell did all those other bashers go watch it in the first place? I find that soo ridiculous were they expecting a top notch Knocked Up comedy? geez if you didn't like it then just walk away, and leave it to the kid's to enjoy these films.

To be honest with you I used to love these films when I was a kid, sure Mulan and Lion King were great but frankly I didn't care which movie was better. As a kid you dont judge movies and rate it, u watch it, enjoy it, laugh and forget about it after a day. These movies are intended for children, it's disappointing how adults actually go watch this in the first place and bash it for being stupid, they were obviously misinformed. You want a real bad movie to bash? go watch those UWE BOLL movies. That's unless you consider House of the Dead, Bloodrayne children's movies...

True - just because it's for kids doesn't mean it has to be a big pile of *beep* You're making a movie for kids, not vegetables.

"You're crazy!""Now, now, Louis, you musn't say things like that because I told you..."

Mainly, I feel upset at 'kid's movies,' because I guess I feel for the pain of the adults who have to sit through it and wish they could be doing anything better at the moment.

At least with PIXAR and Studio Ghibli films, the parents don't feel so bored and terrible.

I agree that if the kids like the movie,we should be happy. I enjoyed this movie---even though there were too many toilet jokes--and I appreciate the fact tht nobody got shot, killed or raped, as happens too often in adults' movies. Laughing is good, cringing at violence is not. I wish the people who posted their ideas would go back to school, learn to construct a sentence , learn to spell and,for goodness sake, have respect for others. JMO.

I have to agree with the threadstarter. Many kids would have loved this movie. It's like saying a black metal albums sucks if you don't know anything about black metal and hates the genre. It doesn't mean that black metal fans wouldn't like it. Also, Pixar is NOT for kids. It's for "everyone". And Ratatouille sucked ass, can't believe how high scores and good reviews it got. Bee Movie was a ton better.

"Everyone" would still include kids. And taste is subjective, which is why there were people that put Ratatouille a high score. Why did the movie "suck"? Not your come of tea?

Kids movies don't have to be dumbed-down crap like this full of overdone jokes. They can be incredible and enjoyable for the whole family. As some poster said above me, things like classic 2-D Disney and the Pixar movies. Speaking of Pixar, those are kids movies and they don't have a 1-3. In fact, nearly all of them are in the top 250.

If the movie stinks, it will get panned whether it is a kids flick or an adult flick.I heard it was bad, but I did the usual backup plan. Bourne started 30 minutes later, and needless to say, we went next door and watched a good movie.

I've seen some bad flicks, but this one is worse than Highlander 2, and Weekend at Bernies 2, two of the worst movies of all time.

You whining about us picking on kids flicks is rather funny. It's terrible, nuff said............

reply

Nobody is whining man....... Just another way to look at movies

reply

This movie is so dumbed down it's raising a generation on something they can't look back on. Not even look back on and say it's terrible. There won't be much nostalgia factor in the long run. Which is sad, because every generation has the movies they look back on knowing they enjoyed.

I AGREE WITH YOU CDPARKER03, WENT TO SEE THE MOVIE, THE AUDIENCE ENJOYED IT, THE KIDS WHERE LAUGHING ALONG WITH THE ADULTS, I HEAR SO MUCH NEGATIVE PRESS ON
THE NET, THAT I HAD TO SEE FOR MYSELF AND THE AUDIENCE REACTION. LOOKED LIKE EVERYONE WAS HAVING A GREAT TIME. I GUESS YOU CAN'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ. AFTER ALL IT IS A KIDS MOVIE, SO I'M SURE MOST OF YOU WHO RESPOND TO MY COMMENT, WILL RESPOND IN A NEGATIVE WAY, BUT THAT IS THE ONLY WAY YOU KNOW. DON'T HATE SO MUCH, JUST REMEMBER ALL THOSE ACTORS AND THE DIRECTOR IN THE FILM THAT YOU KEEP RAGGIN ON SO MUCH WILL MOST LIKELY LEARN, GROW FROM THIS AND GO ON TO THEIR NEXT PROJECT WITH A BIGGER PAYCHECK AND ALL THE HATERS WILL BE SITTING AT HOME ON THE NET STILL ANGRY.

MY KIDS ARE NOT MORONS!

Kids movies still have to at least meet some standard. Parents are supposed to watch the movies WITH the kids, and NOT use the movies as babysitters. There have been literally THOUSANDS of great kids movies made over the years, and some of us refuse to show our children mindless, horrible drek.

It's called a BRAIN. ~USE IT!

reply

CDPARKER03 i totally agree, it shouldn't be up too adults what they think of children's movies they should ask kids what they think

reply

No no no, see, I can say whatever I want about this movie. I love seeing movies but when a movie looks so bad that I refuse to see it from the trailer, I start trashing. First, not only is it a family movie but it's a sequel to a family movie. Bad start considering the original sucked very bad. (Yes, I did see Daddy Day Care. I'm sorry) Imean, yes, they are meant for kids but you can't grow them up on this mindless crap. It'll screw with their minds more than the public educational system does. You want them to see this, then it's onlythe parents to blame. Want them to grow up right, have them watch some classic Disney or maybe some early-year CGI films. I mean, for the most part, the parents have the final say. With me, I grew up with R-rated action and horror films. John Carpenter is my favorite or every now and then, I'll pop in The Lion King or Toy Story or Beauty and the Beast (only animated film that was ever nominated for Best Picture and will ever be) because I enjoy them. So much for non-Oscar, huh? Didn't win but it's a hell of a lot closer than Daddy Day Camp because it isn't just a series of lame jokes, it actually has a storyline.

reply

this movie is bollocks. thats why it was trashed.

reply

Has it ever occurred to you that a kid movie can quite legitimatly be bad? Not all kids films are destined for mediocrity or cruddiness, just compare this to the previous film. Daddy Day Care got 5.6 which I think is totally fair. When a movie's bad, say so. So, are you going to admit that you enjoyed this film or what?
