Why the low user rating?

As of this post, Big Rig has a user rating of 4.6/10! That seems terribly unfair to me! It's not the best doc I've ever seen, sure, and it requires some patience and a relaxed viewing aproach, but it's never uninteresting or boring. Certainly never BAD! I thoght it was a solid 8/10, personally.

I even enjoyed it slightly more than Scratch (which is my point of reference with Doug Pray, having never seen Hype! or his newer films.)

A lot of strange things happen in this world. Things you don't know about in Grand Rapids.

It's certainly gone up a bit since your posting. I enjoyed this tremendously and gave it a 7 rating. It had its faults but nothing so bad that would warrant any score below 6.

What does fair mean when applied to movie reviews? Each person can give it a review based on how they liked it. It can either be honest or dishonest, but not fair or unfair. In fact, trying to make a "fair" review generally involves dishonesty, since it involves thinking about more than how you liked it, like how you think you should like it, or how the producers would like you to like it. If a movie has a low rating, it means that people who watched it and reviewed it don't like it much. This is useful information to other people who want to base their decision to watch it on how others liked it. Trying to rig reviews based on what a movie "should" get makes the score useless for the people just described, and useless to bother giving a review if it'll just be eaten up by a "fairness" system.

Until enough votes are in to represent a reasonable sampling of viewers, IMDB ratings are about as useful as baseball standings the 1st week of the season. Unfair would be teenybopper girls with a dozen accounts giving 10s to a film featuring the latest heart-throb boyband member no matter how bad the film, then of course plenty will give it a 1 because they hate said person, even if the film deserves better. The ratings need time to "season" before they represent any semblance of the actual merit of the film
