Except, as I recall, when the news stations broke the story, they interviewed three separate people who had reported seeing the beast on different days and different times, stretching back over quite a length of time, and the news story cited reports that had come in to the Humane Society over this time...including a 12 year-old girl who saw it in broad daylight while she was sledding. I also remember them interviewing an African American woman who had seen it eating the road kill (as I remember it, anyway.)
Now...I don't think I believe in the story and fully support a costume hoax--but one night doesn't account for all of the sightings...or even the first sightings, for that matter.
Of course, for a more accurate history, you could go to Amazon and buy the book. (And that's not a plug...I decided against the purchase, myself.)
