Starved Cancelled???

So I just read an article on CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/10/07/television.fx.reut/index.html) about how they cancelled Starved and renewed It's Always Sunny... I really liked both, just can't believe they gave one the ax and let the other go on. Seemed like a rather arbitrary decision on FX's end.

Was just about to post the same article. See, that is the problem with television, when there is a show, that has promise, but doesn't initially have the numbers, they axe it right away. I love the show, they should have given it time to develop.

Hopefully another network will pick it up (HBO hint...hint...)

"Pray to the devil, the gods have handed us over..."

reply

Yes, I just read that article too.. this is ridiculous. Starved was much more interesting and 'edgy' than "Always Sunny..." I hope another station does pick it up-I was actually looking forward to the next season already..lol

reply

"Always Sunny" was never as intelligent or in for the long haul. Just sily frat-boy humor neutered by network cable (regardless how 'edgy' fx is). I'm gonna miss 'Starved' and awful lot.

reply

This is bs. The shows had pretty much the same rating. The only reason It's always sunny in philadelphia got the numbers it got, was because it had a better lead in for 4 episodes (It got moved to have Resuce me, Fx's biggest show while Starved had other Married with Children reruns or American pie airing for 80th time this month). I like both shows but think Starved was the most original, and one of the best shows on Tv. Shame on Fx.

reply

if you find starved to be one of the best shows on tv. i think you should seriously question your own character.

reply

If you don't think it is, then you should question your intelligence.

reply

Yeah, just read this in TV Guide Online. Whoever made the decision that it should be cancelled should be tortured by sitting in front of really lame-ass inane television shows for a week.

They should have left "Starved" on. It was fantastic...the scenarios, the people (kudos to the actors and actor/director/writer Eric Schaeffer), even the music. What a *beep* shame. And "Always Sunny..." gets to stay on...what a bunch of morons. Normally, I wouldn't have such a vehement, gut reaction to the cancelling of a show, but I truly enjoyed this show. I actually laughed out loud, for several seconds at a time, until my daughter would come into the room, and I would quickly change the channel. It had zing, and the others had blah...

I guess this cancellation will just leave us all...well, starved.

reply

Starved never struck me as "funny." I always enjoyed it, but toward the end, it wasn't as fun. It took a turn, and certainly not for the better. I can't even explain it, but it defintely changed. It was never BAD. I shall miss it.
Philly is still a good show. I enjoy it. I will most certainly miss starved.

reply

Always Sunny is no different than any other silly ass sitcom on the air... What a stupid decision.

reply

Everyone I know who watched Starved hated it and loved Sunny. Starved was not funny.

reply

Wow, everyone you know must be dumb. Your friends are the ones keeping reality shows on the air aren't they.

reply

mdd5 did you even see "Sunny." It was so smart and funny. Starved was just mean.

reply

Yes I saw both. "Sunny" was not smart or funny. It was a retread. Hmmm lets see lets do a show where one of the characters is homophobic, hmmm lets do a show about how one of the characters tries to prove he isn't racist. It's like two drunk frat guys came up with the ideas for the show of a case of beer. There was nothing original about the show.

reply

NOOOOOOOOO!!! ::cries::

I came here to see if anyone knew when it would come back for next season, and I find devastation instead! Starved was one of the best shows on television this year...why'd they have to rip my still-beating heart out of my chest???

The shows failure is the fault of FX. They pushed it as a comedy and while it had funny moments, it wasn't strictly a comedy...which turned many of it's potential viewers off.

After the first episode, the show took a turn for the dramatic (while still having comedic elements). Overall the show was poorly handled.

"Sunny" is a show that I watch occasionally, but it's not really something that I look forward to. I'll watch it if I'm bored and it happens to be on.

reply

W-w-what! I can't believe it. This show was really different. I would watch Sunny but only because it came on after Starved. I agree with the previous poster that Sunny has it's moments but it's just like Undeclared or any other comedy show I've seen.

Dam! Foiled again!

reply

what a dissappointment!
Eric Schaeffer is fantastic, was the only sitcom I'd actually try to be at home in time to watch. I literally gave up smoking after watching the first episode. Was just thinking about getting the DVD of the first season as soon as it hits the stores, I guess that wont be anytime soon...

This is incredibly *beep* lame! How can they drop one and keep the other? These 2 shows were basically packaged together in all the advertisements. I know they did move "Sunny" to Tuesday, but still both came on several times a week around the same time back-to-back(to-back).

I think I read the ratings were like 1.7 and 1.4 million respectively with "Sunny" having the slight edge...bogus! The only thing that tied these shows together was the irreverence. Jesus H Christ! I think I may turn into a Breatharian to hunger-strike FX's decision...who's with me???

Honestly I am very, very happy that "Sunny" is being picked up because I liked the shows equally, but it's just a crying shame that they went and had 7 episodes done for Starved and just dropped it like it was one of Dan's old frosted donuts only to be eaten later by Sam in the back alley of some set in hollywood! Sh*tty move FX!!! Once HBO picks this up and it wins several Emmys you will be the one eating that old frosted worm-infested donut!

There's somebody over on another thread saying neither HBO or Showtime will touch it...which I find hard to believe, but whatever. The person making the allegations says he's one of the producers or something, which you never really know on the internet, but, once again, whatever.

Somebody's got to pick up this show. It never had a chance to gain an audience! I've always noticed that people tend to shy away from television in the summer and opt to go for a movie or a family vacation instead. If this show had debuted in the fall, like most normal networks do with new shows, it might have had a better chance. It also may have had a better chance if FX had picked a timeslot and stuck with it, instead of showing it every night, every hour, on the hour. It was nice for me, because if I missed an ep I knew I could catch it later.

I don't know. All I know is I want it back.

If you don't like the show or the movie, why are you posting on the thread?
