Was the large age difference between Christine and Matthew ever addrsd?

I didn't realize just how large a gap it was until 2009's "A Change of Heart/Pants" during which Richard indicates Matthew was 16 when Ritchie was born. That would make Christine at least 20-22 years older than him (that's a large age gap between siblings (from the same mother)).

Seriously? Wow...because isn't Ritchie like 6 when the show starts? That would make Matthew 22 but he looks like he's in his late 20s. I had high school teachers in their 30s that looked younger than him lol weird.

Richie was a third grader in the first episode so he should have been about 8.
I haven't seen every episode so I didn't hear that Matthew was said to be 16 when Richie was born. Could it have instead been said that Matthew was 16 when Richard and Christine got together?

I know that during the rehearsal dinner it was said that Richard was born in 1963 and New Christine was born in 1978. I don't know when Old Christine was born but there are jokes about people not believing she is still within her 30s.

There was an episode in which Richard and old Christine mentioned both being 22 on a date back in the day. I believe she also once said something in an episode about being 35 and Richard said it would then be 1997.

Christine said she and Richie were 22 when went on their first date, and that was to go see "Ghosts"

There was one episode I saw recently where he says he took the SATs for her when he was in 3rd grade so I figured a 8-ish year difference
