The novel, Romulus my father.

I have just finished reading Romulus, my father, to be surprised with news of the movie. This book is absolutely beautiful. Raimond Gaita gives a touching view of mental illness, filled with aspiring and inspirational quotes. I am studying this novel for year 12 english this year. Shame I had just finished reading it in January, when we probably won't be studying it until July.

This movie should be excellent. I have high hopes for Richard Roxburgh as director, and Eric Bana as the lead, Romulus. The book, Romulus, my father, is perhaps one of my favourite novels of all time now. It's that beautiful.

I am happy that it is being shot where it is orginally set, near Maldon. I live in Bendigo, and they mention rural areas like Bendigo and Castlemaine in various parts of the book.

I suggest that everyone go to their local book store and order this book in. It's amazing.

Anyone else read this novel?

I have read it, written about it analyzed it and done it all over again, made an oral presentation about it spanning 3 pages in size 8 times new roman... go me :P typical english nerd.

I can't say I like it for depth, the story is very much in your face and dont get me wrong, its a great story, but Raimond doesnt give the reader anything to interpret he says it all for what he thinks it is. SOmetimes Raimond does go overboard and it feels like he's covering up for Romulus or over praising and at other times its like he isnt going deep enough.

ANyway, I'm guessing the person Raimond calls 'M' was Hora (you know which segment of the story I am talking about ;)).

that , is I feel the problem with studying MEMOIRS in a nutshell.

The very essence of it is personal and cannot have things read into it that may not be there , that may be just in fact the readers perception, rather than some cryptic meaning.

I think it should be taken for what it is, and not pulled apart in essays by highschoolers.

I think a son is entitled to write about his father the way HE saw him, and record events the way they appeared to HIm at the time or oin reflection.

That's just my opinion tho..........................

I agree, I think that the book should never have been made part of the english curriculum, or given schools the chance thereof to put it in their english curriculum.

I'm actually glad I read this book for English. We can see it in detail, and view the perspectives of the book.
I love studying books, it allows me to admire the novel so much more.
