Has anyone seen it?

I'm just curious:)

reply

Yeah, I saw it tonight. I was really looking forward to it because I love the book, but I was kind of disappointed. Not really the fault of the film (which I thought was good) just the fact that adaptions of books invariably disappoint me, unless they're children's books. All the things I loved most about the book were unable to be translated and that's just the way it is.

However, the movie was fine. The acting was excellent, I loved being able to recognise lots of the places they went to. Yay Victoria!

maybe there's hope...

Thanks for the info, I'm glad to know that the acting was really good:)

I hope to see it here in Europe soon, I cross my fingers:)

I didn't know anything about the book before, I'd like to read it as well.

I understand that the film is well received in Australia.

I was really glad to read that RMF is sold to Scandinavian distributors! I look forward to see this film! Such a lot of intelligent and creative people in front of the camera: Bana, Potente, and Csokas, and the little boy Smit-McPhee seems to be a real find; as well as behind the camera: Roxburgh, Gaita, Drake etc! It´s fantastic too, that they managed to shoot the film in only 35 days!

Just saw it last night.

The acting in this film is quite superb.. Strong characters combined with excellent cinematography and the subtle ambience of sounds really draw you in as a whole. I found it to be one of those experiences where you forget that you are watching a movie and stay seated for a minute or so after the credits appear as you remember your own name.

So far nobody has given it a rating of less than 7/10...wow. However, that is only from 13 votes. I'll be seeing it today so I'll report back later but it has had some pretty good reviews, some saying that this is Bana's finest performance of his career yet. One thing I don't get though is why The Sunday Telegraph gave this a really positive review saying it is a great film but then only giving it 2 stars? Does anybody think they made a mistake because from reading the positive comments the reviewer gave the film, I would be expecting it to be given at least 3 or 4 stars.

Yes I was very upset, in our papers of the review of 'Romulus, My Father' the man gave it 3 stars and said that he couldnt feel what they were feeling and didnt connect emotionally to the film, but I thought is he crazy? I felt really sad after watching this movie for two whole days because it was so wonderfully played out and the acting from them all was great; especially Eric Bana's and the boys.
I really hope it comes out in Europe too, Ciabli because you really have to watch beautiful Eric and this beutiful movie, its one of his best I think. :)

I just got back from watching it and it was great...the acting was superb especially Eric Bana and the boy and I was really drawn into the film. Like someone else said on this board, I forgot about everything else and felt like I was right there...the acting was so convincing, the sounds, the scenes, the mood and the whole atmosphere in the film really pulled me in. At times during the first half of the film it was slightly slow-moving but this was mainly due to a lot of good character development and getting to know the setting...and we really get to know the boy in the film. Some of Eric Bana's moments near the end of the film were just amazing, although he was great throughout the whole film - it's just the way that his character gradually changed (I don't want to go into it and give everything away). As an Aussie, I've been disappointed with a few recent Aussie films but this one was no disappointment.

I acutally saw it last night at the Elgin Theatre for the first viewing at the Toronto Internation Film Festival. It was a great experince! Eric Bana and Richard Roxburgh had quite a conversation with the audience pre and post screening. All positive responses from last night, and this is movie that moved me! CONGRATS ON THE SUCSESS!

just wanted to echo what everyone who has seen it has said so far. i also saw it at tiff, but at the 2nd screening at the royerson theater. eric was not present but the director was, and participated in a lovely q&a following the screening. i have to say that this was my favorite film from the festival. most of the films i saw were sold out, even at the 2nd screening, and included reservation road,i'm not there, nothing is private, and when the devil knows you're dead. romulus was still my favorite by far, and i was disappointed that the theater was only half full. i can't wait for the wide release in the us, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good film. eric was incredible, as was the the boy who played his son (and the author of the book).

I was lucky enough to see the world premiere of the film. I went to the premiere and then went again to the red carpet premiere. I really enjoyed it. The second time was of course better because i could stop concentrating so hard on the storyline and instead be able to look at the scenery and the extras (as i knew quite a few of them). I got to meet Richard (the director) along with the author who lives in my town (Maldon). It was a wonderful evening and i strongly reccomend seeing this film (and reading the book).

I just watched it.

I loved the photography and the acting was excellent ... but it somehow dragged a little, and from the movie at times I did not understand the characters, particularly Christina.
