I think the Asians have a definite sense of honor, you know, such as, if we're talking and I let you get one up on me, or if I don't act when I should, or something, then I take the consequences. Noi and Nid were part of the boss's ups, too. When Noi walked in and Nid ended up in the boss's arms ... we assume she is the boss's child ... that also radically changed things for Kyoji.
I think Kyoji felt rather spent. He had lost in the game of love, too: his long last look at Nid said to me that he wished she had been his. Remember, too, that Kyoji did the wrong thing more so than the boss in a way. Apparently, the boss asked him to kill his wife to spare his life. That was a pretty sorry decision to have made. Kyoji must have known somewhere deep inside that his days were numbered after that.
But do I think the boss deserved to live? Fortunately, there is a reckoning for all of us. I do sense that things might have gone on peaceably for a while for the boss and Noi but I imagine his own sins would have caught up with him somehow. Hopefully, Noi would have gone on to find a real relationship then devoid of sin. But she was apparently very accepting of whatever was going on. By the way, I really thought that dead guard on the floor was the boss at first. It seems Kyoji and Noi and Nid would have made the right family. Maybe she would have been accepting of that, too. What do you think?
