What exactly was tano in jail for?

There is a part where Tano and Richi are waking down the street and see a shrine of a woman who was hit by a car. Richi says he should talk about what happened, and then Tano says he doesn't remember anything either than the man coming through the windshield and waking up in the hospital. I took that as he killed someone while driving under the influence or something like that.
