How could the men do what they did?

I'm a man, and I would never even think about hurting a woman physically or emotionally.

How could they have done the things such as nadia in the video, or helena's character's fisting. Would you have to be sociopathic to not feel empathy for these tortured women?

Anyway, watching this movie made me sick and miserable. The most affected I've been by a tv series ever.

How could George Bush even focus on stupid things such as th banishment of gay marriage when there is this sort of action occuring in his country??

I went to Kelis's yard for some milkshake, it was only O.K.

They do it because they are unable to have compassion for another human or they hate women. Also men who are apathetic and uncaring and can't understand womens anguish at being sexually abused such as prahazer (and others with his mindset) who think women are weak if they commit suicide after suffering from abuse.
The best form of prevention is awareness bringing it to the attention of the public instead of keeping it a "dirty little secret". so that this never happens again.

In response to the original post, I completely agree that this needs to be a bigger issue in America (as with anywhere else in the world), but I have to disagree when it comes to saying that the banishment of gay marriage is stupid.

To put it in another context, millions of dollars were recently spent on both sides of the debate on Prop 8 in California with regards to gay marriage. Do you think that was money well spent, or do you think it would have been better spent in efforts to stop human trafficking?

These men would almost have to be less than human to do this to anyone, woman or child. What I can't understand is how a woman could do that to other women?

reply

It's not a subject of the movie but I think these traffickers are on drugs and do not really know what they're doing. This is not an excuse.

My two cents:

*I work in a company that makes abortion products. How could they do that?
*I knew people who are in the illegal human organ business. How could they do that?

Simple, Money. THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.

...What I can't understand is how a woman could do that to other women?...

Women are usually used as the trainers for the new 'recruits'. They know how to get inside their heads faster and to make them complaint.
We like to think it can't happen here, but it is mostly the poor that get victimized. The poorer you are, the more of a gamble you may need to take in life. And we have our share of ignorance and poverty here in the States. Smart good looking women get scammed all the time into going to places like Saudi Arabia to sing, model, hang out with the oil rich for a few weeks, only to have their passports taken and being sex toys for a few months instead. And anyone can be kidnapped (tho the poor are less likely to be vigorously searched for)

We think we are safe because we are more educated here, and that women have more power and money here - the great equalizer. (and I am expanding here to include abuse of all sorts) Power and money create all sorts of dynamics, some of which can be very unhealthy.

For the most part, women and children have it pretty good here. I'm sure places like Africa and the Arab world are filled with loving, caring people. But the culture is very different. I'm male, but I don't envy women in the male/poverty dominated parts of the world.
(yes, I understand and somewhat agree with different points of view, like where I may say an Arab woman is treated like a dog. An Arab may reply that they treat their shrouded women with great respect and the fact that they can't go out of the house without a male relative keeps them safe from the rape and violence that plagues America. Sorta true, but within my cultural viewpoint, I can't imagine a woman who would choose to live like that. While women may be very vulnerable here, the rape and violence in the Arab world is within the family. 'Honor killings' are not honorable - it is just more male *beep* dressed up in family dominance)

have been victims themselves in the past, and when offered a step up in the organization that has done this to them, they often go for it.

Well, there are many factors to consider when addressing the behavior of the men in this film. The main motivation with any criminal enterprise be it the sale of drugs, weapons, or human trafficking the end reasons for the people involved is money. most of us have some measure of greed, for those who turn to the more extreme, illegal means to make money it means more to them than the pain and suffering they cause those around them. the men in the film did not see the women they kidnapped, trafficked, raped, beat and sold again and again as human beings, they saw them as whores, as being undeserving of respect. they were the means by which these men could make tons of money, period. but make no mistake in believing that women intrinsically have kindness built into our genetic code. women can be just as cruel, as greedy and as heartless as men, its just we do not expect that type of behavior from a woman, which makes it more shocking. i believe that it was important to have the female trafficker in this film to show the reality that women are just as capable of exploiting other women as men are. men (mainly young boys) are also victims of trafficking, so although in this film the main focus was women its important to note that boys are just as susceptible to being prayed upon by these predators as girls and young women. what angers me most is that this is not a problem widely discussed in the media, this is largely an immigration problem because the key in this crime is that people are being transported across international borders illegally. often there is no evidence of them entering the country so it makes the task that much harder for law enforcement to find and free them. I believe if we educated people more on the problem it would be easier to stop. at least that hope lets me sleep at night.

Just because Bush isn't talking about the issue doesn't mean it isn't being dealth with. What you hear in the media isn't the whole story of what the President is doing.

What you should be wondering is why the media isn't covering the story of this going on more. If this subject got as much coverage in the news as say, well Bush wanting to ban gay marrage to use your example. I'm sure a lot more pressure would be on, not only the President, but also the senators and everyone else in Washington that would have to approve a bill to help stop it from happening.

Because George Bush is a dumb brain dead *beep*

Hope this helps.

Some politicians are looking at ways to prevent human trafficking. They don't seem to have a lot of successes as of yet.

LOL, but it's a global problem, so thousands of people have to fight against Human Trafficking. Something has to be done with poverty too as it is the cause of many problems (including in part some HT).

reply

Yeah, I can tell.

Answer me this: If the next President was Islamic, and he changed laws to follow Muslim law, wouldn't you be pretty pissed off? Which is more wrong? Two men being in a loving, committed relationship, and having a license which cements that bond and allows them to make medical decisions for each other, OR supporting a government that forces its people to adhere to laws written by people who want to force their religious beliefs on others? Whether you think gay marriage is right or wrong, religious reasons have no place in the laws that rule the entire lives of millions of people.

it is amazing what people will do for a few dollars.
thank god there are good people out there trying to stop it.

the thing is, it wasn't just men treating women terribly in this film. little boys were bought and sold along with the girls, and one of the main evil, despicable "people" doing the trafficking was a woman.

truly amazing what humans are capable of doing to other humans when they should be focussed on HELPING these people, instead of degrading, humiliating and violating them into believing they have no self worth whatsoever.

reply

It's not just the traffikers that are to blame, though. All the men who support traffiking by paying to have sex with these slaves - they are also to blame. They keep the whole sick thing going. They can tell that these women are not willing participants, yet they pay to rape them anyway.

I think that a lot of people who posted on this topic hit the nail on the head. But there IS one thing that everyone seemed to miss. Money is probably the number one factor in the sex trafficking business. As Mira Sorvino's character said in the movie, you can sell a carpet, or a piece of clothing once, for a fixed price. But a person? you can sell them over, and over, and over, and over and over, and over again, each time for a different price. You can sell them for days, weeks, years and make almost an infinite amount of money off of them so long as they are not "worn out". And once they are, you simply "dispose" of them, and choose amongst the long line of the poor, unedcuated and the young who are most likely to become victims of this particular type of crime. Do not be fooled into thinking that this type of crime only occurs in other countries, and the women are eventually brought to the United States and forced into sex slavery here. Women here are at a lower chance of being victims, but they are still at risk, and as a young woman this scares the hell out of me.

Most people, could never imagine selling or buying another human being. Collectively there is a revulsion to this type of behavior. Unfortunately there are many out there who are willing to pay top dollar for this kind of service, and where there is a demand you can bet your life there will be criminals of every shape and size willing to meet that demand whatever the cost to human life and dignity. Coupled with the desire for money is a hatred and overall disrespect for women, and for the mutual lack of respect of other human beings period. Also remember, that this industry feeds on pedophilia and their need to be with children. This is one of the few outlets where a child abuser can have his pick of the litter, as sickening as it sounds.

Drugs do play a role, but by far, most who are the movers and shakers in sex trafficking are not "crazy". Crazy people may have the thoughts to engage in this type of behavior, but you have to be of sound mind to carry it out on the scale as was depicted in the movie. We like to denote things that are hard for us to understand as crazy. But it would be too easy to describe these sick bastards as just having something wrong with their minds. Every trafficker in this movie, was of sound mind, and their real life counterparts should be prosecuted within the fullest extent of the law. First, we have to realize that there is a problem, and work as hard as we can to stop it. I hope one day more people will be strong enough to do so.

ok..not all of us are evil. its just the same thing as why there are rapes and murders abortions happening on a daily basis. What can we do? Pray. God doesnt create humans to abuse one another. to those abusers who think that they can play God by forcing their ugliness on another human, they will be punished, beit on earth or when they die. Alot of ugly things are happening around the world today. We, who never experience all thes things choose to play 'see no evil, hear no evil.' Well then.....who can stop all these horror? the internet has actually made me realised that i live in such a sheltered existence. to a certain extent, the demand for selfish needs have resulted in abuse of others.

May God come and judge the world soon.
