Unrealistic

Many things in this movie are completely unrealistic and ridiculous. For one thing, the scene in the Philipinese where a little girl gets driven around in the red light district in a cage lol then put in some back room with paedophiles. Having travelled around these places both in Philipines and Thailand I can tell you that there are absolutely no and I mean NO signs of child prostitution anywhere. The police would be there the minute that kid was seen.

All of the WOMEN working in these types of bars are doing it of their own free will because they make more money doing it than doctors in their country. They are allowed to quit whenever they feel like it. Their main goal is finding a customer who marries them, and takes care of them. But often they return to the bars even if they are set for life, because they think its fun. I have talked to girls that have 5-6 guys that are wiring their money regularly, thinking they have found the love of their life. Its the customers that are the victims in most cases. The girls would laugh in your faces if you called them "victims".

There is obviously human trafficking in asia, but thats all under ground, its nothing like what we see in this film.

Whats that?

reply

Unfortunately you are wrong.

reply

Am I now? I myself live there and I´ve talked to thousands of these girls, they would all laugh if they saw this *beep* movie, you dont know *beep* Dont believe everything you see in the media.

reply

Hun, are you aware that statistically speaking the most profitable crime after gun and drug running is the sale of human beings? this is not to quote the end of the movie but this is based off of information from the US department of justice. You may have never SEEN a child being prostituted in thailand during your time there but do not assume that because you didn't see it, that it does not go on. That would be the same as assuming that because you have never seen a grown man molest a child that it does not happen. Thailand was one example, trafficking occurs in MANY countries throughout the world and children are often victims of this crime. So before you go throwing attitude around, get your facts straight.

FYI, point of information for you. Talking to prostitutes does not constitute you being an authority on trafficking either of adults OR children, these women can only give you their experiences, NOT FACTS.

reply

Did I ever say child trafficking did not exist? Sadly, it does, all over the world. But it was portrayed wrongly in this movie.

hahaha the bargirls I´ve lived with would laugh so hard if they read your post.

So would the bar owners who I have known, and were really just good people, often trying to find a way to help the families of the girls.

Kill them? hahahaha, go out of your country or even your state and actually see the world before you talk about it, child. Watching one movie does not make you an expert.

reply

WHat do you know that we don't after all ?

reply

That this movie is horse *beep*

reply

Actually this movie was portrayed very well, and its not "horse *beep*.
You seem very immature if you need to use "*beep*" cursing to portray your feelings/opinions, honestly.

Yes, I don't doubt that you tracked down some prostitutes, had a drink with them, and probably even slept with a few. They probably are willingly in the business trying to make easy money. I've spoken to a college student who was turned to prostitution in hopes of paying for some of her college experiences. This movie is about child, and young women being kidnapped. Yes, American me do go to the Philippines to have some "fun" with underage children boys and girls. Its a shame, and its also a shame that you are tossing out the truth of this movie based on your petty conversation with a willingly prostitute.

Human trafficking goes on daily and kidnapping is a big part of the operation.
Yes, the victims of this are mistreated, verbally and physically abused. They loose self confidence, will and pride form being treated in such a horrible way. You have no idea of how they are abducted. Yes, perhaps they are pushed into a cage and driven through the Red Light District. Perhaps its something more suttle and they are pushed into a van and put into a seat belt - WHO KNOWS?

Speaking to older street walkers does not give you the right to depict the movie as being false about how the operation works.

exception and certainly not the rule as far as prostitution is concerned. I have lived in Thailand for almost four years and have never seen signs of child prostitution. It exists, but it is not out in the open, and the penalties are very harsh, harsher even than in the West.

As far as girls being kept as slaves, that also happens, but it is almost entirely exclusively for the Asian market. Girls get tricked into going to Hong Kong or Tokyo under false pretenses, and then have their passport taken away and told that they will have to work in a brothel for a certain amount of time to pay off the money that they owe. Surprisingly, I have heard many instances where once the girl pays off what she owes, often 10 times the amount that was loaned to her or her family, she will sign up for another year of servitude.

Sadly, your statistics are no longer completely accurate. In 2008, human trafficking moved up to the number 2 spot behind drugs. This is a horrifying indication of how much worse the situation is becoming because no one cares. I'm in a class about child abuse. Tonight we talked about human trafficking. The United States is the second in importation of human slaves, only behind Germany. It's sad how we pat ourselves on the back for making slavery illegal almost 150 years ago, yet we're still second in the buying of human beings. By the way, for anyone who liked this movie, I highly recommend the book The Road to Lost Innocence. It is one of the most powerful books I have ever read.

I'm sorry you live in such a craphole. That's very unfortunate.

Prostitutes and slaves are two completely different things. Your friends were prostitutes, doing it of their own free will, not slaves who are hidden from view.

It is realistic and u are wrong to say there are no signs in thailand, up 2 12,000 children per year are being trafficked for sexual exploitation in South East Asia, and most end up in Thailand, the Thai government estimate that 30,000 to 40,000 prostitutes there are under the age of 18,in 2006, one woman filed a civil suit in Thailand against her Thai perpetrators, who had previously been convicted in criminal court. The woman had managed to escape from the Yakuza-controlled prostitution ring by killing the female Thai mama san.

Once again some idiot demostrate they know nothing of this subject. If you want to understand more, why do you not speak to girls who have suffered instead of saying they all want to do this?

Speak to me. I have been there. Go to websites and see real testimony. Or you prefer to live in your blissful ignorance?

If only you could know what it is like even for someone who was rescued from it. Still three days of violation and fear. People like you are the reason it is still happening, because your ignorance and apathy.

perhaps the film is unrealistic in some details, but its not meant as a documentary instead the film is trying to convey the pain and misery that sex slaves must go through, the film is meant to provoke a response and perhaps even action on part of the viewer.

the public is usually very passive, even with serious issues of injustice, unless the problem is shoved right into their faces.
