Most boring movie EVER

How much I regret watching this at a film festival a few years ago. Actually, it made a great impact in me since it is one of the movies I remember the most from that year's selection of oriental movies. I congratulate the director for that, if he wanted to make it stick in people's mind, that was accomplished.

But it sticks in my head as a great example of a horrible movie. I was interested about the plot but soon found out it was mere excuse to display "art direction"... meaning a story that just wouldn't go forward and characters that failed to make me care one bit about their existance. Maybe for the Japanese it had some meaning, but for me it was just a waste of two hours of my life.

Until the "climax" of the movie I was hoping I was somewhere else. When the "cure by noise" scene started, I truly began hating the movie. How exactly playing lound irritating noises for what felt like an eternity could be seen as entertainment? Or even thought provoking? I would indeed call it art since art is anything made from individual criativity that triggers an emotional response, but my response was felling robbed of my time (thankfully I didn't pay for the ticket) and trully IRRITATED and ANGRY.

That's why I'm writting this. The movie is high rated here in IMDB and some are even calling it "brilliant". Please educate me - what is the deal with his movie that some think is even "ok" while I wouldn't watch it again even if paid.

Personally, I'm a fan of oriental cinema. I admit I never saw any of the other works of the director, but this one...

While the movie itself is very thought provoking, I admit it isn't perfect. The music in it is brilliant though. Especially Asano's performance in the fields.
Powerful stuff that. Noise is a very underrated art form.

Did you ever notice that people who believe in creationism look really un-evolved? - Bill Hicks

Irritation is a very subjective thing. I find the use of the word "oriental" irritating. I find the "individual criativity" of fragmented sentences and misspelled words irritating. Didn't you ever notice the wiggly red line that marks your misguided efforts? I'm "trully" sorry about your response of "felling robbed" by the film. One person's "lound irritating noises" may be music to the ears of others. When you set out to start "writting" you should already be educated, and not ask for an enlightenment that you could never comprehend...

What a charming person you are.

Highly doubtful since, if you truly were a fan of anything Asian, you wouldn't describe it using a term like "oriental" which is so outdated and such an over-generalization to the point that it's borderline racist.

And why would I say it and not mean it?

"Oriental" is a common word in my native tongue. It has no derrogative meaning whatsoever. It is simply a synonym for Asian, as "Oriente" simply means East in opposition to West. It's no more an over-generalization as "south american" or even "asian".

And yet, it's been almost 10 years since the worst movie session of my life and only a single post tried to reply my original querry about why people find this movie interesting. Funny.
