I got bored at the end.... rating: average. :(

Few quite good scenes but I didn't understand certain reactions/dialogs.

I didn't get hook by the storylyne/characters and didn't care anything for them, so I left 15min before ending. :(

Nice performances.

5/10.

You missed the last 4 minutes ... so you missed the best of the movie. Really.

Rent it and watch the ending. It's incredibly powerful, beautiful, unusual and poetic.

...Like Guido said...

I didn't care much about the movie; the screenplay, dialogs, characters felt stereotyped and annoying... BUT there is some real talent in it (even in the "first" hour and three quarters, the acting, directing, editing are pretty good); and the finale really made the movie, IMO... So, if like you i had left the movie before the ending, i would probably have rated it a 5; as it is though, i feel compelled to give it more, i havn't rated yet but i'm probably gonna give it a 7.

lesson to be learnt from this: never rate a movie (on IMDb) unless you've seen it from beginning to end... PLEASE!

to miss that ending is missing the whole movie, personal moods and expectations must be in order to enjoy any movie. I give this movie a 9/10.

Bad movie,great ending,below average.

4/10 for me and just for the amazing piano part in the end.

Gosh some of you lot really have no appreciation for cinema that emotes. How anyone can sum up a film like Four Minutes in six sloppy words ('Bad movie, great ending, below average') is beyond me. Clearly the film wasn't meant for someone like you. Thankfully it will find its audience, it really is a special film that will find a home in the hearts of many.

I agree with Simon. There are so many themes evoked by the movie. It reminds young people that the lives of old decrepit people are really a continuation of their youthful experiences of love, happiness and tragedy. It reminds old people that young people live in a new turbulent world that they can comprehend only so much (e.g. the old woman's comments on "black music", referring to jazz). And overlaying all of it is the German spiritual conflict between supreme cultural achievement and bottomless brutality.

I can't say I'm surprised by people not appretiating this movie to the fullest. I guess there'll always be those who prefer flashy visual effects instead of some real emotions/drama.

Not sure if somebody asked in this particular thread whether Traude's flashbacks were actually relevant to the storyline or not, but imma answer it here anyway (don't feel like posting twice) Yes, they were extremely relevant. Helps explain the character, her personality, her past, etc.

Anyway, I think this is a great movie, think it's the first german movie I've ever seen, actually. Thumbs up, 9/10.

I really don't understand why people leave before a movie has ended. They never seem to leave like 30 minutes in, which I could understand if it's not your kind of movie... but they always leave mere minutes before the ending. Why? You can't hold out for 15 minutes longer? I know the original poster is long gone but I still find this to be some sort of phenomenon that occurs regularly. It baffles me..

reply

So you can't be bothered to watch the whole movie, but you can be bothered to come here and take the time to write about it? Fail.

"I'll book you. I'll book you on something. I'll find something in the book to book you on."

You left 15 minutes before the ending?
Now, that's a reaction that I don't understand.
The last few minutes are the best.
