SPOILERS - End of movie

I thought the very end of the movie seemed a little ridiculous to me - when Anna was narrating and she said that Robert died. I guess I just felt that was a little unnecessary, why did they have to make him die? He almost died multiple times in the movie, and then right at the end they just throw in "oh FYI he's actually dead this time." Seemed strange to me.

Yes, that ending seemed a bit off to me too. I suppose someone must have thought a happy ending to be too cliche, though personally I would have preferred a 'happy ever after' ending for Anna and Robert - particularly after what they'd been through.

"Three years...I promise."

The ending might make some sense if the movie were based on a true story. Since the characters were fictional, the ending appears just tagged on and serves little purpose. The plot of the movie is quite ridiculous anyway. I wonder how Anna knew that she was carrying Robert's child, back in those days without DNA tests and she already had the doctor as her fiancé. So she had refused sex with her fiancé and everyone else, then fell in love with a wounded enemy pilot with absolutely no reason and got herself pregnant in just one night? That made little sense.

She slept more than once with Robert and was a virgin until the first sex in the hospital. That's how she knew who the father was.

Very ridiculous ending! Adds nothing to the story but then again this film has lots of explainable elements.
