Emerson's Age

Well, if he was born in 1989 per his bio and the movie was made in 2005 that would make Aaron Webber 15 or 16 in the movie. And, though I am not a good judge of ages, I thought that is what he looked like as Emerson. So when the Emerson character told the man at the end he had really just turned 13 was that meant to be the truth or was he lying? Was he just telling the man that so he could escape that uncomfortable situation he no longer wanted to be in? I am not sure of the school system in Canada but that was a middle school he was attending which I guess would suggest the younger age. Were there any other clues as to what age the Emerson character was really supposed to be?

he told him he was 16 in order to get the man to let him in the car. If he had said he was 13, the guy wouldn't have taken him to begin with, because he would have been below the age of consent (which I assume is 16 in Canada).

I know you said you are just assuming so I thought I'd clarify the Canadian age of consent. In Canada, the age of consent for male-female sex is 14 (they are trying to pass a bill to raise it to 16...They voted on the proposed bill in Dec/07 and raising the age won in the votes but I don't think it has been finalized or taken affect yet) For female-female sex, age of consent is 14. The age of consent for male-male sex and for anal sex between unmarried couples, regardless of sexual orientation, is 18...So even though Emerson was 13 but said he was 16, he was still under the age of consent for male-male sex either way....I guess he thought telling the older man he was 16 sounded better than saying he was 13...even though he was under age, 16 doesn't sound as young as 13 does and increased the chances that the older man would be willing to 'get involved' with him.

Talk about a double standard!

Yes and unfortunately it is the same in some states in the USA as well or worse, it is still illegal!

And if you are a American Citizen visting somewhere outside the USA, no matter what the age of consent is in your state, or the age of consent where you are visting, for some strange reason, you have to be 18 for male-female sex and although there is "no current law" for female-female/male-male/anal in this situation, you are to assume that same-sex/anal relations with anyone under 18 is illegal.

I've been doing some research about this, and not everything you said is true.

First of all, the bill has now been passed, raising the age of consent to 16. However, there exist two close-in-age exemptions, depending on the age of the younger partner. A youth of twelve or thirteen can consent to sexual activity with an individual no more than two years older than them. A fourteen- or fifteen-year-old can consent to sexual activity with a partner who is no more than five years older than them.

Additionally, section 159 of the Criminal Code sets the age of consent for anal intercourse at 18 years, with an exception if the two partners are married. However, courts in Ontario (1995) and Quebec (1998) have independently declared Section 159 of the Criminal Code of Canada (Anal Intercourse) unconstitutional.

^ That was mostly adding to what you said, but here's what you said that was incorrect: The age of consent laws apply to homosexuals as well, with the exception being anal intercourse. You said that male-male sex is illegal for persons under the age of 18, but that is no longer true, as long as they don't have anal sex.
