I wonder if Emerson is at least party based on Christopher Paolini, author of "Eregon"? A home-schooled teenager writing a fantasy epic, encouraged by his liberal parents? I was actually unaware of Christopher Paolini when I saw this film, but when I read about him I thought 'that sounds just like Emmerson'. (great film, BTW ... esp. for using The Hidden Cameras in the s/t)

hmm... seems like an interesting idea but you haven't quite given me enough evidence to sell me on it, to be honest.

I just saw the movie, and I thought he seemed a lot like Christopher Paolini as well!

There may be similarities, but I think no more than that. I don't think one was based on the other.
