Lingering Question...

I was wondering when Teddy tells Damien "Don't do anything stupid Damien" and Damien responds "You've been telling me that since I was 12".

It may seem trivial to you but I need some clarification about the meaning behind these lines.

Thanks.

I just took it as the banter between the over protective brother and his younger sibling. It was like saying 'you've been looking out for me for years'. The fact that he said since tweleve was that it was probably the age where he started finding his feet and setting out on his own. I'm 30 in February and my big brother still says things like that to me.

Good guys may not finish last but they sure as sh*t don't finish first!

I read Teddy's comment as a fore-shadowing of the ending. He knew where it could lead if Damien took up active military opposition to the Free State.

Damien was asserting his independence I guess, telling Teddy he had no influence over him anymore.
