Christian movie masquerading as UFO flick?

Notice there's a Christian bible in the trailer, and that this movie has been mentioned on more than one Christian web site. Is this actually a Christian movie? Are the unidentified objects going to be angels or god or something?

reply

The film is, decidedly, Christian. Without giving too much away, let's just say that the u.f.o.s serve as a springboard for the film's more Biblically-concerned ideologies.

reply

It's a Christian film and we are not hiding that in any way.

reply

Does that mean they edited out the sex scene with Rebecca St. James?

That was the only reason I had for perhaps renting this in the future.

reply

That's a ridiculous thing to say. She is known for being an advocate for chastity and she would never do such a scene.
--Jeff--

reply

wait wait wait Rebecca St James did a sex scene??? she WOULD NOT do that u got your sources crossed.

reply

I second the idea that there should be a Rebecca St. James sex scene in the movie.

He was being witty at the expense of a third party.
Lighten up please!

Joker:How can you shoot women and children?
Gunner:Easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much!

reply

I think his source is his sick imagination.

reply

Probably not that far off. But if a natural carnal desire is sick, you're bashing god right there. Oh dear.

reply

And thus the can of worms is opened.

i think it is just hilarious that so many people took this comment seriously and started freaking out. OBVIOUSLY customer-service is joking people!! lighten up and know how to recognize humor!

reply

The first hour looked like any MAINSTREAM film.

Once 5the "message" came in it got a little but preachy but the climax was an interesting twist.

reply

Rich Christiano directs Christian films, period. I spoke with him once on the phone and he made that clear. So yes, "Unidentified" will have, at its core, a Christian message. It's not "masquerading" as anything.

What he needs to be careful with is his marketing. I know that the promotional info on the DVD sleeve for "Time Changer" makes no indication of it being Christian, which is why a LOT of people were taken negatively by surprise when they rented it. I think if he makes his Christian intent clear, "Unidentified" will reach its intended audience, and the scoffers can more easily avoid it.

reply

I worked on this film and am pleased to see it coming out in the near future. I would caution you, motpicvideo, however regarding the decision to (c)overtly display the film's key christian thematics. After all, what is the intended audience for a film such as this? If you say it is primarily for christian viewers, I would respond by saying you're way off. While it is well and fine to have media out for public consumption that is not offensive etc. and easily consumed by the christian market, wouldn't filmmakers be missing the point of christian cinema by not attracting a secular audience?

I mean, seriously, if you're presenting the gospel and talking about Christ and you're only attracting viewers who already know the content (preaching to the choir in effect) what good is seeking mass market distribution? While one doesn't want an audience to be duped into watching something (how people could miss that Time Changer was not structured on religious principles by looking at the back of the box is beyond me), one also doesn't want to shout the religion from the rooftops and, in effect, alienate a large portion of the demographic who would, otherwise, have seen the film.

reply

Before I went to see this film, I went to the official website to find out more info on it. The website had surprisingly little information. I went to see this film anyway. The acting is pretty bad, and I thought at first this must be a low budget student production or an "indie" film. About halfway into the movie, I realized it was a Christian recruiting tool, and not a "sci-fi" film. I happen to be a Christian, and I like sci-fi movies, so I thought the movie was okay. But I can't help but wonder how many secular moviegoers will go to the theater expecting to watch something along the lines of the "X-Files", only to find close-up facial shots of actors "preaching" to them halfway into the movie! Is this an effective way to bring people to Jesus Christ? I hope so, but I believe many people will feel like they have been "tricked". People who want to know the Lord, seek Him out. People who are not ready, are usually NOT READY. And many people just don't care, and will never come to know the Lord. Still... I commend the producers of this movie for at least trying.

reply

no offense but someone who would paid 6 bucks to goto the theatre to see something along the lines of "X-Files" deserves to hear a good sermon. thats just my two cents.

reply

The real message of this film is that Christians are dishonest and deceptive.

I'm a Christian and I resent the dishonest way this movie was presented.
Have the moral courage to advertise the movie for what it is. Don't try to steal money from scifi fans by tricking them into viewing it.

reply

"I worked on this film and am pleased to see it coming out in the near future."

I'm very happy for you. I get to work with Rich's brother Dave in a month down in South Carolina - I don't even know the script, but I trust his Christian convictions to be compatible with mine.

"How people could miss that Time Changer was not structured on religious principles by looking at the back of the box is beyond me."

Uh, it has something to do with the way the paragraph on the back talks about a man traveling through time and seeing consequences of actions, etc. Unless one looks closely and sees at the bottom that it was produced with TBN funds, there is nothing inherently "religious" about the DVD box. As a Christian, I went LOOKING for indicators that it was a religious film and couldn't find any. A non-Christian could easily think he was simply about to rent a secular sci-fi film.

"One also doesn't want to shout the religion from the rooftops..."

I think of the recent "End of the Spear" (not a Christiano film, I know) in which the word "God" was mentioned only once or twice, "Jesus Christ" never, the gospel not present... Even many Christians came out of that one wondering why the filmmakers had bothered: The film is so "sanitized" for secular audiences that it presents nothing more than a message about "modernizing" these South American cultures.

Funny, shouting the message from the rooftops, proverbially speaking, is what Christians are supposed to be doing.

reply

Have fun working with Dave...I worked with him on his tv series a little over a year ago. Definitely a fun guy...and he and his brother could be twins, it's eerie. The film he's shooting is his "love story." Many of the cast members he has on board are great...several people from Unidentified as well.

reply

Then you probably also know Jeremy Hufstetler? Shane McMullin? I went to college with both of them, and look forward to seeing them again in a few weeks.

reply

Someone rented Time Changer? That's too bad for them.

reply

When I went to the movies I saw the poster for this movie and said "Yes! Finally another alien movie that isn't about invasion." Then I come online trying to find some info and I see that it's subplot is religion. Whats the deal with that? I mean, not telling people on the poster that it is about religion? That will piss off quite a few people who see it thinking that it's about UFOs and they are Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, etc.

If you want a good UFO movie, see Close Encounters. Don't waste your money on this movie that will try to convert you through scare tactics.

reply

The subplot isn't religion. It's the MAIN plot.
--Jeff--

Jeffrey Lee Hollis

reply

If it's the main plot, then why isn't the title something a little more religious? Also, why is it about UFOS?

If you want to correct someone, try having justified reason.

reply

The title relates directly to the spritual content in the film as well as the UFO subplot. Who wants a boring religious title anyway. Ya dig? This title is clever.
I understand that you're against the film because you're opposed to religion and want to spread your message and that's your absolute legal right under our constitution, but if you really want to present yourself as a qualified speaker on this film, you should see it before you attack it for the sole reason that it exists and is in opposition to your anti-Christian lifestyle. There are hundreds of films released every year that glorify your lifestyle and very few that glorify God. Please allow us to present an alternative to the din of iniquity pushed upon the populace by Hollywood. Peace!
--Jeff--

Jeffrey Lee Hollis

reply

To paraphrase the words of someone affiliated with this project (maybe even you, Jeff), this movie is a piece of bread from a dumpster compared to filet mignon of secular cinema.

reply

I can assure you that I uttered no such slander.
--Jeff--

Jeffrey Lee Hollis

reply

Well somebody associated with the project did. To his credit, the "slander" was unintentional, a product of being careless with words.

I heard it on some xian radio talk show. The guy was promoting "Unidentified" and was making a point to the effect that just like a well-fed person would not even glance at a piece of bread in a dumpster, so a Christian well-fed on secular movie fare will not think this newly released xian movie was a big deal. His solution then, is for a Christian not to go mainstream, secular movies so that this xian movie would look as good as a piece of bread from a dumpster would look to someone who has had nothing to eat for days.
Inadvertently, he compared "Unidentified" (and xian movies in general) to a piece of bread in a dumpster and secular movies to regular food (filet mignon was my addition)

Stuff like that is the reason I occasionally listen to xian radio. You can't make things like that up!

Jeff, this is straight off the Fandango.com web site. This is all you are giving suckers like me to go on:
"Synopsis: Two reporters investigate a series of UFO sightings, and uncover a supernatural link between the appearances."
Somebody ain't tellin' the truth, the whole truth, an' nuthin' but the truth about this movie.

Joker:How can you shoot women and children?
Gunner:Easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much!

reply

Every trailer and ever description shows it to NOT be a Christian movie and that it is in fact a UFO movie...

BUT, I am glad that I checked the IMDB forums before going to see it because I would have been PISSED if I had been tricked into seeing this movie not knowing what the premise was.

AMC, a national cinema, describes the movie as "Three magazine reporters go on a quest for information in a small Texas town when an unexplainable phenomenon occurs." No mention of religion or Christian values. The movie poster on the same website shows a beam of light coming down from a bright disk shaped object (UFO) and therefore I assumed that it was a UFO and that the movie was about aliens, and not a religious propaganda film.

I still plan to see it; I am just going to wait until it gets to video and rent it for $4 instead of paying $8.50 to see it at the cinema.

reply

There is no disk-shaped object on the poster. (It's hanging next to my edit bay.)
--Jeff--

Jeffrey Lee Hollis

reply

Then AMC theaters had an unauthorized edited poster, because it most definatly had a UFO in it.

~Blarg!

reply

The only poster made by the filmmakers does NOT have a UFO in it. If the theatres "edited" the poster, then they did so without the filmmakers' authorization.

As shocking as all this may sound it is all true and backed up by much evidence.

People who research UFOs are not telling the public the whole truth. A coverup within a cover exsists. Can you handke the truth. Lets See!

What do UFOs and Christmas have in common?

Well here we are again hustling and bustling about to find that perfect gift. Spending our good old hard earned cash on that one thing to bring a smile on Christmas morning. We never know if that gift will produce a smile but a guaranteed smile waits if you bring up the UFO subject. The truth is that most of us choose to ignore this subject, pretend it is not happening, or laugh at it. Just like Santa and sleigh we entertain the idea while in the presence of a believer. So besides a smile what could UFO sightings and Christmas have in common? Research shows that there is more then meets the eye to this unlikely combination. The truth is that UFO sightings are increasing and occurring at a tremendous rate. The gallop polls of 1990 to 1998 show us that 20,000,000 people reported UFO sightings in the United States alone. That is an average of 150 sightings every day. The gallop polls between 1990 to 1998 also show us 4,000,000 people reported being abducted by aliens. The polls show about a 10 percent increase in alien beliefs every decade since the 1940s, with a 50 percent present day belief in alien life. We see a steady gain in Alien beliefs as these phenomena reports increase over time. So it would be safe to say that what ever the source of the UFO phenomena is, the end result is leading us to believe in Extraterrestrial life. The only truly safe statement to make about UFOs and their occupants is to say this;” they are simply objects and entities of an unknown origin, with an unknown purpose and agenda.”

Every since the early 1950s a certain theory or hypothesis was discovered about the possible source of UFO sightings. This hypothesis is backed up by just as much factual evidences and testimonial eye witness evidence as any other hypothesis. How ever this hypothesis is covered up by the same Ufologists claiming to bring you the truth. In essence a cover up within a cover up exists. Please read the next few paragraphs because they may very well change the entire way that we perceive ourselves and our place in the universe.

Joe Jordan is President and co-founder of CE 4 Research Group, www.CE4research.com His research has been featured in a book titled Alien Intrusion, several News paper and magazine articles. Just like our own local Southern Ohio State Section Director for MUFON Pete Hartinger, Joe Jordan is also a MUFON, (Mutual UFO Network) Southern State Section Director and Field Investigator for Brevard County, Florida, home of Kennedy Space Center. Since 1997 Joe Jordan and many other researchers have over 100 documented cases of alien abduction experiencers who have actually STOPPED the abduction experience by uttering the name of JESUS. Yes; you did hear that right, calling out the name JESUS or JESUS HELP ME has terminated over 100 abductions in progress.

This is a type of spiritual warfare that was discovered from researching the ancient Holy Bible. The only known way this can work is if the abduction experience is being perpetrated by demons (fallen demonic angelics) deceiving mankind for some unknown reason. The name Jesus is not a magic word but with faith the Holy Bible tells us that demons will flee from the name of Jesus. There are many shocking facts about UFOs, alien beliefs, and related phenomena that are not making it to the public eye. Not only is Joe having results with this but, many other UFO researchers across the United States are also. Many of the big names in abduction research also have cases like this but they feel their reputations could be at stake if they go public with such data. Going public would also jeopardize their income from books, DVDs, and their pride. At the web-site www.AACCOA.org , I am a counselor contact for individuals who claim to be going threw the abduction experience. I have personally helped individuals on the phone that were going through the abduction experience or harassment. The name of Jesus works if the individual has faith.

Another fact we fail to hear in all the UFO media attention is this, the direct connection of UFO sighting spikes and prophetic Jewish events through out history. UFO sightings spiked up 3 fold in 1947? The Roswell event occurred on July 3-4 1947 there was not any material recovered until July 7 1947.The famous Roswell News Paper announcing the event to the world was on the next day July 8 1947. At that same moment in history the United Nations was drafting resolution 181. , This resolution draft was the first step for the nation of Israel to be born. After thousands of years scattered and broken and against seemingly impossible odds the Jewish peoples had a home land once again! Israel was brought forth on May 14 1948 by the United Nations implementing resolution 181. Israel was born as a nation in one day, at once, exactly as prophesied. By the way, The July 3-4 1947 Roswell event is why we see so many block buster extraterrestrial movies like Independence Day, Starwars, War of The Worlds, Men in Black, Superman Returns , Transformers and so on all released on or around our Independence day!

UFO sightings also spiked up 10 fold in 1967. That year another biblical prophesy was fulfilled, the ancient Holy city of Jerusalem was captured by Israeli forces in a defensive counter attack. For the first time in thousands of years Jerusalem was again under Jewish control. We even have a local connection to a religious event right here in Circleville. The Bruce Stevenson Sighting occurred in 1948 just as the newly built Circleville Bible College (now Ohio Christian University) was first opening its doors to receive students! The Bruce Stevenson sighting occurred almost the same amount of distance west of town as The Circleville Bible College is east. Aside from these connections are several cases of people praying to God for a UFO sighting to stop and it did!

The research has now taken a new direction, What If the Source of UFO Activity is not extraterrestrial, inter-dimensional, or time travelers but something even more sinister? Some of the most well known UFO researchers in the world have made statements saying just that.------------

• Dr. Pierre Guerin, FSR Vol. 25, No. 1, p. 13-14 says "UFO behavior is more akin to magic than to physics as we know it... the modern UFOnauts and the demons of past days are probably identical."
• John Keel UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse (1970), alerted the general public to the fact that many aspects of contemporary UFO reports, including humanoid encounters, his research shows that there is a direct relationship between UFOs and psychic phenomena/demonology.
• Whitley Strieber, Transformation, p.172, "I wondered if I might not be in the grip of demons, if they were not making me suffer for their own purposes, or simply for their enjoyment."
• Dr. Jacques Vallee citing the extensive research of Bertrand Meheust [Science-Fiction et Soucoupes Volantes (Paris, 1978); Soucoupes Volantes et Folklore (Paris, 1985)], in Confrontations, p. 146, 159-161, "...the UFO beings of today belong to the same class of manifestation as the [occult] entities that were described in centuries past."
• Whitley Strieber, Transformation, p.184"I felt an absolutely indescribable sense of menace. It was hell on earth to be there [in the presence of the entities], and yet I couldn't move, couldn't cry out, couldn't get away. I'd lay as still as death, suffering inner agonies. Whatever was there seemed so monstrously ugly, so filthy and dark and sinister. Of course they were demons. They had to be. And they were here and I couldn't get away."
• Trevor James Constable, a famous military aviation historian, said it best when he wrote that ‘the battle with UFOs is not for the planet of man but for the soul of man’

Definitely an awesome little UFO movie, just watched it for the 2nd time...

Really should've picked up the Unrated version though, was disappointed to see that the one I watched was missing that infamous Rebecca St. James sex scene :(

reply

Well I was duped...

First - I was expecting a sci-fi movie in the same vein as Fire in the Sky.
Even the posters look similar. It's at night and there is a lightbeam shooting down from the sky... In FITS it hits D.B. Sweeney, in this one it hits a pick-up truck -- which would also be reminiscent of Close Encounters.

Here is poster: http://barros.rusf.ru/films/covers/unidentified_2006_dvd.jpg

Now tell me how this is not being marketed as a sci-fi movie? That kind of sneakiness, bait and switch, gato por liebre tactics are very un-christian... Hmmm, well come to think of it, its actually very representative of today's fundamental/evangelical christians.

And second - What happened to that hot and heavy Rebecca St. James sex scene!?
