Tom Hanks is deperate to turn his no-talent son into a movie star

The guy will do anything to help his son become a movie star. The kid, Colin Hanks, doesn't have any real charm or talent -- he's melbatoast -- and only coasts on his father's name. Doesn't seem to bother him in the least.

Now, Tom Hanks has stooped to starring a movie just so his no-talent son can have a decent part, and have a shot at stardom.

I hope this bombs. Maybe Colin will consider something more reasonable for his future, like selling cars. He's just not a very good actor.

Uhm... Colin Hanks is a fine actor. Sure he's not the best, but he's a lot better than some actors out there.

You speak as if this is the first time Colin Hanks has been in a movie. You speak as if this picture was made so that his career will spark. Hello! He was in King Kong for goodness sakes! He has done other high profile movies as well! This isn't the only thing that he's done. So quit your claims of nepotism, because they're not welcome here.

get out of this thread!!!
colin is a very fine actor. have seen some of his movies? he doesn't have to try hard in acting because it comes to him naturally. it runs in the family!!!

reply

I have seen some movies that he's been in. King Kong (weak), Orange County (Jack Black ate his lunch), 11:14 (both of the kids he played opposite stole the scenes, he was average). So I've seen his work and found it wanting. His daddy has his work cut out for him.

reply

I liked his movies (some more than others) and I liked his acting so I guess it depends on your POV whether you think he has talent or not at the moment

the next movies he's in (GBH and Barry Munday if it gets made) might clear it up a bit if he has talent (which in my opinion he has)

... besides ... I'd rather have Colin getting roles than someone who only gets attention because she parties and her parents own big hotels

I personally don't think Colin is a great actor, although he was better in KK than I expected, but in all fairness, was anybody really all THAT thrilled with Tom in the 80's?
Colin's gotta "grow" in this thing. I hope he gets a chance to do so.

reply

I don't think Colin is very talented, he's alright. He doesn't have much charisma or charm, so it'll be difficult for him to get a lead. If you were to compare Tom in the 80's to Colin now, even without connections in hollywood, Tom had a way better jumpstart and Colin is missing a key thing, charm and charisma. Tom, in the 80s, had this boyish charm and confidence (splash, big!). I don't see much of a spark in Colin. He looks like a blank canvas. Hope he makes it though!

Tom is soooo cute!!!

Colin is ugly....

reply

I agree with this.
I was no born in the 80's but my mother is a huge fan of Toms, and I was brought up around the films.
I think Tom hank's acting developed as the years went, and his acting became stronger and more Natural

Personally, I've never seen any of Colin Hank's films, but I am looking forward to seeing The Great Buck Howard, because I am very fond of many of the actors.

I agree with Kid_c

I think his last name does alot for him.

reply

I think Jack Black's character in Orange County was supposed to "eat his lunch." The kid was passive, with other eccentrics around him rolling over him.

He was also a main character in TV series Roswell

I think Colin's pretty talented, he just hasn't been given much to work with in the past. I think he was very likeable in Roswell, but his character was sidelined the entire time he was on.

is that laughing at the comment or at the thread title?

he's a decent young actor; a lot better than some of the young guys coasting on their looks

I think Colin is an absolute natural. I was a fan of his and thought he was great even before I realized he was Tom's son. If Tom were really trying to pull strings to make Colin famous, Colin would have had a lot more roles by now.
He's proven his talent and ability on his own. I think Colin would be in just about the same position now, even if Tom had retired 15 years ago and Colin had changed his last name. He had the starring role in "Orange County", one of my favorite movies of all time, and I think he carried it just perfectly. I don't compare him to his dad either. Colin has already proven himself as a good actor on his own. Believe me, Colin will only get bigger and more respected in the coming years and decades. One thing's for sure, I enjoy him tremendously. He's one of my favorites.

Colin blows.

Every time I see "Orange County" I think "Oh, there he is trying to mimic his dad's funny mannerisms again," failing miserably.

I've never seen a Colin Hanks film before, & I think that he is extremely likeable despite his average looks.

He's sweet, comes across as genuine, & gives off a non-threatening 'aw shucks' vibe, & god knows how many decent guy roles directors write into their movies - the guy who's in love with his best friend, the next-door neighbour, the art school classmate, etc etc. He'll do well in that direction.

At Colin doesn't need to try too hard, & seems natural & comfortable in his roles. Yes, his surname might have helped as daddy has connections, but with Colin's average looks, he would sizzle out fairly quickly if he doesn't have an ounce of potential, which he does.

I agree that he is WAY better than some of the actors out there who are coasting on their looks. Say, Robert Pattinson. Hollywood's current hearth-throb; Twihards stampeding & crying & fainting to catch a glimpse of him, & all that he did was act like a constipated log in Twilight (eeeewwwww). & I don't even think he's THAT great looking. But I heard he's a great guy though. -shrugs-

You definitely have your own perception, but judging by your title topic, it appears that you seem really dead-set against Colin.

He's an alright actor. He didn't kill this film though.

Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

I really like his character on that show. I've only watched up until the end of season 2 so far, but I'm quite interested in seeing where the subplot with his character and Peggy goes. He's a great addition to the cast.
