Gattaca reference?

There is a scene where Ethan Hawke's character is in a bar talking with his niece, she tells him about her dream to become an astronaut, and he encourages her, could this be a reference to "Gattaca"? In that movie Ethan goes to great lenghts and makes big personal sacrifices to become one. Just a thought.
