If we weren't suposed to eat animals, then why are they made of meat?

explain?

no, just kidding. I'm a vegan. Not only for ethical reasons but I've always found meat to be a disgusting prospect.

I also happen to be a big Monty Python fan.

reply

Lol ...
Sadly though, your topic title is pretty typical for this board.

reply

Meat has protein. We need protein. People kill animals, animals kill animals. You eat leafs, i'll eat a steak, thanks.

reply

But animals do not have the human intelligence. I am glad I'm smart enough to realize that killing is not ok. And today's scientific advancements allow me to get proteins from other things than meat. So why not let the animals live? How would you like it if animals were killing people and eating them?

reply

"But animals do not have the human intelligence"

So there's no reason not to eat them.

"So why not let the animals live?"

You think that there'd be huge herds of cows roaming free across America if people stopped eating them? In reality, the animals only exist because we breed them to eat; if we weren't eating them, they'd never exist.

Anyone arguing that people should stop eating cows is arguing for cow genocide; in the wonderful vegetarian world the only place you'd see a cow is in a zoo. Is the extermination of the bovine species supposed to be somehow morally better than eating them?

"How would you like it if animals were killing people and eating them? "

Animals do kill people and eat them.

'You think that there'd be huge herds of cows roaming free across America if people stopped eating them? In reality, the animals only exist because we breed them to eat; if we weren't eating them, they'd never exist. '
The point is that cattle is being over bred in order to meet the demand for bovine based products. When the over breeding stops the cow population would even itself out not become extinct.
The wonderful 'vegetarian world' probably wouldn't have zoos. Many vegetarians are so because they believe in animal rights, therefore, putting animals on display or in circuses is generally a no no.
'Animals do kill people and eat them.'
That's instinct. What they kill is generally eaten at the spot where the kill happened. Humans kill an animal there's a whole process involved. The butchering process, cooking and using utensils in order to obtain the same results. So instinct is not a factor.
Yes I'm a vegan and , no, I don't push it on other people. I'm also willing to bet that I get the "why did you decide to be a vegan?" more often than omnivores get asked about their eating preferences.

reply

Exactly, and animal lovers don't realize that we not eating animals, or animals killing and eating each other, would be much worse for the planet and make life on earth impossible, animals aren't intelligent, so unlike us, they don't know they need to control birth, they just want to breed as much as they can before the die, that's all that matters for an animal, so not controlling animal populations would create a huge imbalance in the ecossystems, and cause huge trouble in a global scale. Animal lovers are very puerile and innocent, and it's cute really, so we must teach them the facts like we do with children with gentleness

hahaha! I first thought you were a meat eater with a better sense of humour than those typical "If we weren't suposed to eat animals, then why do they taste so good?" or "How can you deny vegetables their rights bla bla...". I would applaud you even if you were a meat eater (I'm a vegan too)

Ha ha ha! Nice one, felixthacat - you got me to click on this thread. That argument always reminds me of this sticker:

You can't deny the logic of "those typical" though

reply

I think the question sounds better in its pure form:

"If we weren't supposed to eat babies, then why are they made of meat?"

Answer that question, and you'll have the answer to your own question also.

reply

I'll take some baby nuggets.

reply

Cows are regarded as being partly composed of meat because normal, well-adjusted people eat them. The same goes for hogs, sheep, lambs, and so on. Meat is the edible flesh of a non-human animal.

Babies are not made of meat unless, of course, you are psychotic and desire to eat them.

Do you eat babies, you sick *beep* ?

reply

So your reasoning is: it's okay to eat cows because enough people eat cows, and it's not okay to eat babies because nobody eats babies.

By that logic, if enough "well adjusted" people were to start eating babies, you'd think eating babies was okay.

Perhaps you should re-examine your reasoning.

reply

No, you misstate my reasoning.

However, if one is mentally ill or deficient, he might think of the possibility of normal, well-adjusted people starting to eat babies and enter it into his logic . . . oh, wait - you just did.

reply

Okay, your argument is that I'm crazy for considering whether eating babies might be morally acceptable.

Fair enough. You can call me crazy if that makes you happy.

But by the same token, I can call you crazy because you refuse to consider whether eating cows might also be morally outrageous -- and for the same reasons that eating babies is morally outrageous.

In both cases, you are deliberately killing something that is conscious, self-aware, and that wants to live, so that you can eat its flesh. A cow's experience of the world and a baby's are likely not so different. So why, other than custom and habit, is killing a cow okay, and killing a baby not okay?

Just something to think about, after you've grown tired of throwing pointless insults.

reply

"Just something to think about..."

You just repeated the same nonsense about a cow's life aspirations, which makes obvious that you cannot lay out an argument worthy of intelligent consideration.

Plainly and clearly:

jaf-14 thinks that eating cows
= (is morally equivalent to)
eating human babies.

Let the observer judge the merits.

In spite of what you so passionately want to believe, you could search for the rest of your days for evidence that cows are self-aware and want to live, but you will fail in the attempt. Pathetic and sad, but go for it if you will.

reply

Okay, I am now "crazy", "mentally deficient", "incapable of laying out an argument", and "pathetic and sad".

Given all that, it's clear that any further attempt at discussion with pammahi is a waste of time. Reading one anonymous pseudonym call another anonymous pseudonym names is tedious for everyone.

For anyone who is interested in learning about how cows think, however, here is an interesting article on the subject:

reply

"...how cows think."
Oy.
So, you have no cogent argument.
Wish you were grown-up enough to admit it.

If the guy kept replying to you, you would have had to spot he was a troll. His one statement made me laugh out loud!

Meat is the edible flesh of a non-human animal.

It was a troll reply. Meat is muscle and humans can be considered to have meat. You should have left it at your baby vs. cow and left it at that. This guy would go on for hours just to convince you that you are wrong, even with facts. lol

reply

That is the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard.

Meat is edible flesh of a non-human animal? WTF?!

Meat is muscle and humans have muscle. Humans are also animals as well.

Troll!!!

The question above does not make sense.

So we eat animals because THEY ARE made up for meat? What if they were not made of meat, would we still eat them?

Did you create this question or was it from some meat eating bigot who wanted to prove some nonsensical scenario?
