Saw this last night

After seeing the Hobbit films and Lee's portrayal of the complex Thranduil, I wanted to see some of his other work. In the Hobbit behind the scenes on the extended dvd, Peter Jackson said he wanted Lee to play Thranduil after seeing the Fall. So i was like, ok, I got to watch that first.

And, wow. What a hidden masterpiece! I was immediatley drawn in from the old Hollywood feel, the music, and that adorable little girl. She was just precious. And Lee, my God, why don't we see him in more stuff? He is an amazing actor. He had such a beautiful "father/daughter" dynamic and chemistry with the child actress, that truly made you believe that she opened his eyes to the idea there was more to the world. The scene where he is sitting beside her after her surgery. Ugh, my heart was in my throat.

I do wish the ending had been more clear and that she had mentioned they kept in touch over the years. I would hate the idea that once they went their seperate ways from the hospital that they never saw one another again (other than her seeing him in the movies). I wanted to know that Roy Walker was okay.

Anyways, I will be heading over to Amazon to buy myself a copy of the dvd, because it is worth every penny and worth a yearly rewatch!

Isn't it an amazing film?

I stumbled across it by accident, never having heard of it before, or Lee Pace. Hidden masterpiece is right! A real gem. Superb acting by everyone, incredibly innovative and beautiful cinematography/imagery.

Agree, the chemistry between Lee and the little girl was outstanding.

I wanted to know that Roy was okay too, but since the ending was left up to the viewer, in my ending of The Fall, he was.

One of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. And Lee Pace is amazing in it (as he is in everything).

On a side note, this is how you do a remake! Tarsem Singh did great work here.

I agree. Not only is it one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen, it's on my list of 5 Favorite Films I've ever seen.

Lee really is a extraordinary actor. It wasn't until I began watching Halt and Catch Fire, I realized it was the same guy from The Fall! Then I started watching some of his other work, and he never disappoints.

I've still not seen the original so have no basis of comparison.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

The Fall is one of those films like Bladerunner that I can watch forever and never be bored seeing it.

reply

Umm, what was it a remake of?

reply

Of a film called Yo ho ho (Йо-хо-хо)

reply

Thanks for that. Never realised it was a remake.

reply

You're welcome :) I don't think Yo ho ho is a very well known film outside Bulgaria.

*SPOILER ALERT*

It think it was her imagination that kept her seeing him (who was really any stuntman) in movies because it was better than knowing he would have tried to kill himself again after she had left). He was never going to recover.
