champagne and roast chicken

there was a still photo of one of the challengers during the journey (crowhurst i believe) chowing down on chicken with a bottle of champers; does anybody know how, if it was supposed to be a non-stop race, the competitors restocked on food, water and supplies?

thanks

The competitors weren't allowed to restock en route - everything they wanted they had to take with them when they left. The photo used in the film is actually of Nigel Tetley, eating his Christmas dinner, which he'd specially kept for then. Robin Knox-Johnston had his fresh water supplies contaminated half way round by sea water after his boat was turned 180 degrees by a strong wave - as he wasn't allowed to have fresh supplies delivered to him, for the rest of the trip his water supply was a bucket hung from the mast to collect rain water.
