Proud to be an American !

Seems Americans using a british accent are more desirable to cast than true british actors .. ! i wonder why ?

reply

Mass appeal to use famous American actors I guess. They were all pretty *beep* though, so I wouldn't be too proud!

I love Mena Suvari and was so happy to see her in this! Katherine Heigl I could have done without.

Actually I disagree. Be sure to check out Black Hawk Down's cast list. Those boys are supposed to be America's strongest and most patriotic people and yet look at the number of Europeans playing Americans. They did a damn fine job too, I might add.

Don't get me wrong, I'm an American - a southern American too (aka magnoliasouth all over the net except here) - and I'm probably THE most patriotic person in America.

That said, the Brit accents coming from Americans in this movie stunk. I love Katherine Heigl but she needs to stick to American roles in the future. No, seriously. At least when Kevin Costner couldn't do it in Prince of Thieves, he admitted it and just dropped it altogether! She kept going back and forth between American and British.

Then what about Mike Vogel? Yikes! I couldn't figure out what dialect he was trying to use. It sounded like a mix of Brit sounds all in one. So that you can understand it in American terms, imagine someone mixing a southern accent with one from the Bronx. Yeah, scary isn't it? That's just how Vogel sounded to me.

Anyway, my point was that just because Americans were in it, doesn't mean they actually belonged there. It seems that they weren't there because they best fit the role (obviously they did not) but were there instead hoping that the American audience would be interested in seeing it. It's all about the money and not talent, which helped makes this movie fail.

Think so? Then explain why so many British & Australians are starring on American TV shows.

Because they are cheaper... it all boils down to economics!

Nope, it's "apologise". Lol.

thats a crock. its so tiresome to hear these smelly british tell Americans that they cant do their accent but nothing about the flipside.

its the same garbage with the harry potter movies. Americans werent even given the opportunity but they will allow Batman to be smelly.

reply

I don't think that's the case at all. In fact, there are many brits who are overlooked with amazing talents due to their accents. Depending on where they come from, their accents can be quite thick.

BUT that nonsense aside: Daz as Steve is HILARIOUS! I had to go look up the word 'minger'

blah, blah, blah, who cares. Katherine Heigel should have been left out, thats my 2 cents. The movie was good anyway.

This message is so stupid. I'm american and I think International actors are far more better than US actors.
I believe for this movie, they wanted bring bigger stars to the role to gain more money, because hardly most americans watches british television to know most of the british cast, and that goes the same over there, unless it's a movie. Oh and it may be that most international actors are in more t.v. but hey, most of them are winning more Oscars then us, especially Australians, and atleast they have a job instead of being on E! most of the time.

And what the hell does "batman being smelly" mean ? most of the main characters except harvey and rachel were international actors, even the directors british, plus it nearly surpassed Titanic which had Kate Winslet (who is british and just won two golden globes). Honestly, the only person I hated in the film, was Katherine Heigel accent and her weird teeth, everyone else I didn't mind.

I will never say I love my country and I will never say god bless america because ironically right now with the way our country is deteriorating by our ignorance, I'm waiting for god to say *beep* america.
unless he already did.

He is referring to the actor playing Batman in both Christopher Nolan films to be British and actually check out the where the actors playing in "Batman Begins" originate from:

Christian Bale/Batman = British
Michael Caine/Alfred = British (This one, at least, makes sense)
Liam Neeson / Ra's al Ghul = Irish
Gary Oldman / Commissioner Gordon = British
Cillian Murphy / Scarecrow = Irish
Tom Wilkinson / Carmine Falcone = British
Morgan Freeman / Lucius Fox = U.S.A
Katie Holmes / Rachel Dawes = U.S.A

During filming breaks they probably got together for tea.

And this is just one example, British/Irish along with Australians have been dominating American roles for the last 10 years and the average viewer has not even noticed because they do it brilliantly.

Yet when one American tries to pull a British accent, people go all Homer like saying "Yoo hoo, American actors rule the screen!"

Interesting topic, funny how everyone forgot that there aren't any real Americans in any of these movies, except when someone casts Native American, everyone else is pretty much from UK or Australia and other countries, if not one generation than 100 generations, but every American can track their roots to somewhere outside of America, so I don't get why this constant comparison between various countries and US regarding its citizens and who is smart and who is stupid, trust me I come from Europe its overrated :) Everything is overrated, there are smart Americans and there are stupid Americans, there are smart Brits and stupid Brits and on and on and on. The only reason why some statistics data says there are more stupid people in US is because of the simple fact that there are more people in US, I mean if one place has 100 people and other 100000 people then even if all 100 people of the first place were stupid beyond reason and 101 people of the other please were stupid beyond reason too, sure statistically the first place regardless of the fact that it's population is 100% stupid while other place is like 1% stupid or something like that(I'm not good with percentages when I do them while I write) if you would present it like place A and place B and just say that there is 100 people stupid in place A and 101 in place B it would end up being that place B has more stupid people regardless of the fact that its minority of the said place while the place A would pretty much at some point fell apart, without introducing the other facts its easy to blame everything on the US and to the poster who said that god should f%%% America , you should live in couple of other places and not like an American but get a citizenship and be there for like 10 years or even less depending on the place and you'll be running back here faster than superman, you should fight for your country if you are real American and if you see something that's wrong, in US that's more possible than anywhere else, I've been to other countries, was part of protests and it was pointless, all the protests didn't lead to anything.

God bless America :)
