Why do they think they have to have the token black guy in every show?

I'm black so this is not a racist comment I started watching when stacy and tiffany joined and it is obvious that he doesn't fit in the show at all. I just don't get why all shows feel they need to force somebody black in every show even if there is no role for them. They could have added 2 or 3 black people and maybe work it out better but just putting one guy there for the hell of it kinda annoys me.

It's one of the few shows I have actually seen from the start. They brought Jimmy in as they felt Adam needed a friend at work when things got difficult with Brian (as he had no other friends).

I agree, it seemed kind of token at first. But I think he has developed into one the more important characters. We are seeing more of his relationship with his wife and it's added to the show.

It does seem odd, like many shows, to have one just one black person.

I hate to burst your bubble, YourDreamsAreMyReality. But some Black people are the only one at their office or in their circle of friends. Any way, there were other Black people in the backgrounds of both the office scenes and whenever the "What About Brian" friends go to public places. As well as other ethnicities.

More realistic than some TV shows where it looks as if the characters live in a world where every non-white or mixed race person has been scoured from the earth. Except for Very Special Episodes where the main character needs to learn a lesson.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Its not that they THINK they have to have the token black guy, They HAVE to have the token black guy otherwise the show is racist, it doesnt reflect society, and the forums are full of rants asking why there isnt any black main characters.

I never found him to be Token.

He wasn't there to be street or all wise brother. Just a friend who happened to be black married to a bar owner Wife who used to be a child star ala Punky Brewster.

But there isn't just one black person in life. Most people (more-so if they live in cities) know many people of differeny races. So to have one black person in their lives and that's it is a bit unrealistic.

I think that some white people just don't know how to write other races or think that they have to write races a specific way or are even afraid of showing racial bias in their writing so they don't include many other races in their works. I've noticed the shows that are more multi-cultural or atleast have 3-4 or more ethnic characters, are shows written by people of other ethnicities (like Grey's Anatomy)

I don't know why they think they need a token black guy, but I just started watching 'Happy Endings' (good comedy, very much like WAB, by the way), and there's that token black guy in the group again. And he's married to a white woman who's one of the friends, too. Very funny, very entertaining, and I hesitate to use the words 'token black guy' when the part is played so well by the actor. However, the scriptwriters and producers seem to do this... why not two or three black guys in the circle of friends? It's always just that one black dude...

I love Happy Endings too , but its just a comedy, the dude on WAB , served no purpose whatsoever, had no story line, and he and his wife are both TERRIBLE actors/actresses. I found them both very annoying and sorta dulled the show a bit.

Point.

But, Jimmy was one of my favorite characters on the show. And the hottest guy nixing Brian.
