I don't usually hate the series that I've watched, but I hate this one

I don't usually watch the complete series of shows that I feel hatred towards, but I management to finish this series (thank god it's only two seasons).

While it is not a total train wreck of a show, it sure does not have many redeemable features. The main problem that causes me not to rewatch this series again is the dad character.

This guy is probably the most immature dad character of all time on tv. He does the same crap over and over: diss his son[s] constantly, whines a lot, complains a lot while being lazy. These characteristics would be fine if he actually grows out of it, but apparently he's a teenager stuck in a old man's body.

Sure, there were some episodes where he learns that he was being a a-hole or immature, but the next episodes—same immature sh!t again!

to conclude: I really wanted to punch the dad character. The mom character being a semi-close second.

p.s.: I really hated the episode where this d-bag bad mouths his boss and then quits his job for no good reason, and ends up getting back his job in the last 30 seconds of the episode without having apologized or learned his lesson.

I agree, this show was terrible. For me it was a byproduct of everything that was wrong in television all in one package.

...Doh!

I just finished watching the series finale minutes ago. Your post summed up my feelings fairly well, although I'm less angry with the Dave character and more just upset with the entire product as a whole. Don't get me wrong -- Dave is an awful character -- but it's not like the characters around him even things out. At least the wife character Cheryl on According to Jim balances out the negatives of Jim.

My summation of The War at Home...
- Virtually no character development
- One-dimensional recurring characters
- Repeated themes without plot progress
- Unlikeable, unrelatable characters
- Tried to be edgy, but on network television, that's next to impossible
- No stand-out episodes
- The "break the fourth wall" white screen thing got old fast
- And for a sitcom, it wasn't even funny

I'm still unsure why I even watched it all. Maybe because I saw half of season 1 on TV, and all these years later, I'm like "I guess I'll watch it."

But, like you, I have zero plans to re-watch it. There are many shows I go back and re-watch every episode of. This is not one of them.

Honestly the fact that you will watch 2 seasons of a show that you apparently hate and then come moaning about it here, the bigger problem is YOU

I could name a lot more ridiculous immature dad in tv than Dave:

Richard from The New Adventures Of Old Christine, he ruins that show with his ridiculous stupidness.

Dave is actually like a lot of Dads out there...
