UFO Clone?

I'm a fan of the old series UFO ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063962/ ) and I haven't seen this one yet, but I've heard that the two are quite similar.

Actually, though not a clone, I was watching a few episodes on the DVDs tonight, and it struck me that Threshold is what "War of the Worlds" was trying to be back in 1988. Threshold has a better concept for the alien invasion, though, and better dialogue, and special effects have improved enormously and gotten much cheaper in the last 18 years.

Except for some very basic similarities that apply to all alien invasion plots, I wouldn't consider this as particularly similar to UFO (which I watched when it ran on American TV).
