Future Dean was a future of Dean that didn't end up happening. I'm not even sure how "real" that future was with Zachariah sending Dean there.
For all we know it was another reality warp, like It's a Terrible Life, of Zachariah proving a point to Dean.
It's amazing now, how we are all beginning to think outside the box with this God story line. How its flipped everything in the past on its head. Do we know what's been the whole truth or not? What has he been really messing with? I think its what I love about this plot, that it gets your brain working and thinking about the story in a different way. Its amazing what we're coming out with.
