Curious question

Im sure this has been asked a lot but...When did you start watching the show?

I started in December 2015-my brother thought i would really like it because it was/Is my kind of genre. He played me a "sample episode" A Very Supernatural Christmas. I liked it, so we started at season 1 and went to season 11 to where I started to watch it "live" when Chuck returned.

To this day Sammi I was channel hopping as you do and flicking through the shows. I knew of the boys as they often appeared on a site that I look at every day for gossip called Digital Spy a showbiz content website. Its really good for Supernatural. So I had an idea the boys were popular. One day I decided to just binge bits and the first full episode I remember watching all the way through was After School Special and fell in love with those young actors playing young Sam and Dean. I adore the actor who plays him forgetten his name senior moment! I carried on and by the end of S4 finale I was totally hooked and couldn't wait for the season to come back. I ordered S4 on DVD to see Dean come back from hell, and my jaw dropped I was shell shocked at this point and then went to buy the first 3 seasons. Seeing Dean come back from hell and Sam bought back to life in all hell breaks loose I just wanted to see more.

I learnt everything I could about the acting, writing and direction the show was going in. I became a fan and developed my love for this show very quickly and later decided five years ago to start my own blog where different authors come along and post as well who love the show too. Some have even gone on to start their own blogs and are amazing writers.

I love the chemistry between the brothers and their love for all things family. Which felt strong throughout the shows make-up. Making me feel very passionate and protective of them as the years went by. I have been watching the show 9 years this year and still love it 9 years on to death.

Thanks Bella, I enjoyed reading your "Supernatural Story" - Where is your blog located?

Once I got into the show, I found myself buying anything and everything Supernatural, I mean it was around Christmas, so it was a Very Supernatural Christmas for me :) Even more last Christmas....and I don't doubt this Christmas will be any different. I just bought a calendar this weekend and the guy who checked me out said, "Getting your geek on, huh?" And I was like yeah.

I heard about the show for years and I don't know why I turned from it because it's right up my alley. Even when I watched the Pilot, I was thinking, where has this been all my life? I thought the first 5 seasons were just non stop amazing. It's a bit bittersweet binge watching a show that's in its 11th season, because you get to watch it, in order as fast as you want, but I missed out on the "real time" of it all.

The link to the blog is above Sammi if you ever fancy being a writer for the blog let me know, always on the lookout for new talent!

He must be watching Supernatural too! Seasons 1-5 are known as the Golden Years by the fans and it's so true. It had you on the edge of your seat so often! Nowadays its slowed down a bit, but its still excites me and am just as much of a fan as I was when I started. I really care about J2 and what happens to their characters.

Was there a season and/or story that you didn't enjoy?

I guess the beef I have with this show is Sam not Looking for Dean because it made Sam look uncaring when we know he would move heaven and earth to get to and save his brother. I hated that summer knowing what spoilers were out there explaining to us that this is the new mature Sam the one who stands on his own feet. I have never really forgiven Carver for introducing us to Mature Sam, and Season 8 is still very hard for me to watch. It's so out of character for Sam in a number of ways. He later did apologise to Dean, but it was very hard for me to get my head around and still does.

I also didn't enjoy S7 the Leviathan's and Dick Roman was such a dick! There are probably others, but those spring to mind at the moment.

How about you Sammi?

Sam and Dean's brother bond, I think is one of the great things about this show, also their "brother" bond in real life (for Jared/Jensen) - you know, makes it more real and they have great chemistry. Dean has been protecting Sam since his father told him to get Sam and him out of the house that night. So, I always felt/knew Dean would do anything for "his" Sammy. And I thought Sam would do the same for Dean, until that whole purgatory storyline. Was it really a full year? I'm a "nerd" when it comes to telling the stories time vs./with our time is all. I assume they wanted a beef between the brothers, but it didn't make Sam look very good, like you said. The Amelia thing was quite boring and I'm not one who wants or thinks the brothers should have a love interests, as those tend to slow things down, especially if they are a "Amelia" (Also, it's confusing that's the name of Claire/Jimmy's mom/wife). Now when Dean was a demon, Sam was there, so that was nice.

I want to watch the whole series again, because I'm foggy on some things, but I felt while watching season 6 I was not enjoying it, but it had some episodes that I thought were great. I must be the only person on earth (and my brother) who liked the Leviathan's story, and yes Dick Roman was such a dick, that actor plays a good jerk.

I thought this show did a great job of coming up with new stories and what the brothers would be up against every season. As for the Men of Letters/Henry, I was like cool, they get to meet their grandfather, that happens to be involved in something that they already do...? It was neat but strange at the same time that Dean and Sam came from a hunter and men of letters. But then they are like super hunters, so I guess it makes sense. Did not like the British Men of Letters, they made this big world and it was over that easily?

I didn't like the Darkness at first, but I think I got more annoyed with all these people she killed and souls sucked out that all was forgiven.

I agree with you about Amelia, and that neither had chemistry with one another which bugged so many. I also feel the casting department got that one so very wrong. They never even had a screen test together WTF?

The Levithan story felt at the time so damned lame that they wanted to take over mankind for their own food chain. It left a number of loopholes that never really went anywhere. Don't get me started on the CGI mouth of the Levi! it was dreadfully done. Oh, and the bibbing ceremony eating themselves WTF was that about>???

I really enjoyed, however, the men of letters and the British version. I thought the actors who played the British version were really believable and added a different dimension to what we'd seen before.

I did love the Darkness from the jump. I got into it very early on. the only beef I had was the different actresses that played young Amara. I loved the actress Emily Swallow who played her, and that God and Amara were a perfect match. I thought the tension between Dean and Amara was really strong, and that kept me on my toes. What was gonna happen, would Dean say yes to Amara? The bomb in Dean at the end broke me into a thousand pieces, but Dean was saved.

Hope you're enjoying your re-watches, natter here when you watch a few and have questions for us?

reply

Wow, I didn't know about the screen test. Thanks for that trivia. They did seem very awkward.

The Leviathan's were brought up to be so dangerous, because they could eat you and not die. I know the CGI was horrible, but was still surprising to me. Like whoa, wouldn't want to be anywhere near that. Some of it was funny too, like the bibbing - seriously? I mean, wouldn't be better if another levi ate them?

In the beginning, I thought the British men of letters was a good idea, but maybe my expectations were too high. I bet I'll watch it again and love it....I tend to do that.

Hm, I don't know if Dean would've said yes....he's a very do or die guy, isn't he?

I really want to start my rewatch now, maybe tomorrow. I will most likely post questions and comments after each disc. Maybe it will be a good "project/discussion" for the "board"?

FYI, great blog. I added it to my favorites :)

I had heard of the show for years, but never watched. I think in 2014 I finally broke down and watched it on Netflix. I really enjoyed the show and watched through season 11. I got behind during season 11 so i caught up on Netflix again but I was too far behind season 12 to start watching on TV so i have that whole season to go through. While I have really enjoyed the show I have not rushed to watch season 12 as I think the show has probably pushed passed its sell buy date. I still enjoy it but not like I did.

reply

Season 12 was the first season I watched "live" and I don't know if I had high expectations, but a lot of it wasn't what I was expecting/hoping for.

reply

Been watching since the pilot.Never thought back then that i would still be watching 13 years later.

reply

Same - saw ads of the show before it aired and tuned into the pilot when it did. And now here we are.
