How about when they step out of the shower (or wake up in bed in the middle of the night) with full makeup on?
BTW, when your hair is curly, even a bit, cutting it is easier, because the curl hides any unevenness. When I was wearing a perm I often cut my own hair. In bathroom sink, not kitchen, but still. And it did look pretty good afterwards, if I say so myself.

Well, that's kind of true. I've got thick wavy hair and I cut my own bangs (fringe for UK folks) and it doesn't matter if it's uneven because it just curls up.
