Why did he go?

Does anybody know why Brett Cullen "Jack" left the show? I thought he brought a lot to the show. I don't want to knock Fred Koehler, he is a solid actor. But I don't think he has the dry witt that Brett had. I think that this might turn around and bite them. They're already making cast changes. They shouldn't fool with it this early in the series.

Maybe it's just a dramatic ploy to have the character come back later on. Or maybe they're trying to get a Miles and Murphy Brown chemistry going. Anyway, I don't think the character will live happily ever after in Bermuda for too long. He was just a little too A type to just spend the rest of his life fishing.

I'm hoping that it's just a set up to get these two characters in a High Noon showdown later on.

Maybe he wanted to get out before the show is canceled, which is what the rumors are saying.

It could also be for budget reasons. Actors (especially on unproven shows or ensemble casts, think Lost) sometimes have contracts that pay them per episode that they appear in, rather than for every episode that airs. So if they shoot 13 episodes, maybe they write one of the leads out of 2 or 3 of them and bring in a guest actor to cut back on salary costs. Don't be suprised if next week Jack suddenly gets his fire back for the news and comes storming back into the office......
