Why oh why was this cancelled?

This was such a good show. It was funny, smart, and entertaining. I looked forward to every time it was going to be on. Which was very few times, but still. Maybe someone at FOX will look at it and go, "Damn, we need to stop cancelling all these great shows." And totally yummy to see both Bradley Cooper and Nicholas Brendon.

Addendum 10/29/08

I have since purchased the series on DVD. I got it at my local Borders, and on sale, no less :) It was utterly delightful to sit through all 13 at once. G-d, Bradley Cooper was fantastic!! Everything was fantastic, the cast, the stories, the sets, oh it was so great :) I'm just glad to have the DVD set.

And oh, I'm a Browncoat ;)

Let me tell you something. Fox sucks. If you have an idea for a show don't bring it to Fox. I wish they would go down.

Here, here. Its amazing they've keep the good ones (IMO) that they have; The Simpsons, The Family Guy (resurrected!), MADtv, Malcolm in the Middle, The O.C., and That 70's Show.

R.I.P. - Arrested Development, Firefly, Kitchen Confidential.

Why I hate Fox: They keep canceling great shows like Oliver Beene, The Pitts, The Critic, Head Cases and others. I finally snapped when they canceled Arrested Development and banned them. I took them off my TV so now when I flip through the channels it won't come up. Not only do they cancel good shows but they replace them with the *beep* reality show.

Back in the late 80's, when FOX was getting started, they'd give shows every chance in the world - and I loved it! Sometimes they would keep on a show for a bit too long, but at least every show had a good two seasons at least, before it was yanked. If it was a show I enjoyed, I had at least two full years of it.

Now, FOX will run a show for two episodes. If it's not an instant ratings winner, off it goes. The fact that this show and "Arrested Development" ran as long as they did is outright amazing. I don't know why networks treat TV shows like the movie box office. TV is not the same! Sometimes, by the time I figure out when and what channel a new show is on, it's already gone! TV is something people have to adjust to, to make time for in their lives. This isn't a movie where for 2 hours we go to our local multiplex and catch the latest flick. This is something that becomes part of our lives for 30-60 minutes every week! So give us time to discover when the show is on, to let word spread and to let us incorporate that block of time for the show into our lives!!

"Seinfeld" was NOT an instant ratings hit. If it was on FOX, it probably would have been cancelled! Someone at NBC actually had some wisdom at one point and let it run. It became the #1 TV show. FOX, learn from NBC. Learn from your early days. "Married with Children" became one of your longest running shows because you gave it time. Stop thinking like your a box office and more like you are a TV station. Then great shows like this and others will have a chance.
I, at least, applaud you for your token push for "Arrested Development" - but then, even that show you bounced around your schedule so much that no one could figure out when it was on!

Yewah so true, why can't people learn from seinfeld. It's like they say in the show: "Why do I watch it?" "because it's on TV". TV-Shows needs to become a part of the social envoirment in the country, and the best way to go there is nowdays trough reality show because they are so extremely stupid and easy to follow. It's about nothing, the whole time. If I was an executive I would invest time in shows like arrested development and kitchen confidental, see if the ratings go up after 4 seasons. It's not like these shows are total flops, they still have decent ratings.

I totally liked this show too. It reminded me of a quirkier Grey's Anatomy. Fox sucked for ending it, while they kept a dumbass show like Stacked. Please.

Dude fox has had the best shows that last for 2 or less seasons and still have the nerv to air american *beep* idol and the oc. But there is still a shred of hope... HBO might take Arrested Development, Scifi Has John Doe and air FireFly Once in a while..

The "sitcom" died when Sienfeld and Friends ended and then the hype of Bull s h i t reality tv came into the fray. Reality TV has always been stupid. Want reality, go the f u c k outside, thats reality.

Arrested Development, Kitchen Confidential, Firefly, and Dark Angel were the *BEST* (IMO) shows on Fox. The OC is *watchable* because of Rachel Bilson.

I hope HBO or Showtime picks up AD though...that would be great

reply

Arressted development is not going to HBO they were never interested in it
Showtime wanted to pick it up, but Mitch Hurwitz decided that he didnt want to do the show anymore

ANother excellent epsiode.. i think its now airing on south african television. this is such a waste, just downloaded and watched another brilliant episode. can't beleive there's only 1 left to go and thats it!

watse of a great series, a great comedy. a fantastic cast.

gutted!

fox, you've broken my heart yet again

Yeah, Whhhhy??? We get this show in Korea now and I been watching it every week and HOOKED!!!! It's such a great, charming, witty show? What the hell happened America? The ONLY thing I can think of that the show was over hyped, it didn't pull in the (huge) numbers FOX thought it would get and yanked it right away, but I love every episode so far. I just saw the episode when the restaurant was robbed and they had no customers and it ended with Jack kicking out anorexic models and punching out a man in a bunny suit and thought THAT'S FUNNY!!!! The cast was sooo good and everyone seem like they really liked being there.

Why did it end? Hopefully, there are still 10 more episodes at least after the last one :).

Oh man! Are they airing episodes there that didn't even air here?! That doesn't sound familiar, and I watched all 3 episodes that actually aired here.

I'm with you all on the Fox hating. They lost me forever because of how they handled Arrested Development. Yeah, I know...we had 3 seasons (though 3 abbreviated seasons), but they didn't promote it, moved it around, and aired it opposite Monday Night Football and the opening ceremonies for the Olympics. Morons! What did they think was going to happen?

Another show that was canceled too soon and I hardly ever see mentioned when talking about the shows that Fox cancels too soon, is Action, where Jay Mohr was the agent. It was just like AD and KC, original, fresh, funny, and one of the best things of all - NO LAUGH TRACK!

Undeclared is another gem that Fux killed too soon.

there are 13 episodes, all aired abroad.

Fox didn't even give it a chance. I enjoyed the episodes that aired in the US, but the ones that didn't air were great as well and really deserved a chance. I hear ratings for the episodes that aired overseas were pretty good. I hope that Fox or whoever has the rights to it release a DVD of the show.

reply

I was hoping there'd at least be a season of it...but only a few episodes. Tis a shame, the show kinda reminds me of Scrubs set in a kitchen environment.

I'd like to add Space: Above and Beyond to the list of freeking amazing shows that FOX has cancelled. Damn them straight to TV hell.

just watched the first episode,it was surpisingly good.not AMAZING,but quite good
so ur saying its cancelled already?isnt it only 13 eps in?are they gonna show the rest of the eps?
they shud @ least wait till season is over before declaring they are gonna cancel it,definitly doesnt help the show get viewers

I live int he Uk and have found this programme hysterical.

I have just watched the episode with the robbery. Hopefully we'll get to see all the episodes over in the UK whether they were aired in the USA or not.

I haven't recorded them this time around but if they come back (which paramount normally do) I will definately record the lot.

I'm genuinely sorry to hear it has been axed.

Great casting - great script, and personally I think Jim and the English guy (whatever his name is) are brilliant.

I can't say that I've seen any of the other programmes that FOX have not recommisioned but it sounds like they have no idea what the general public want.

Is there any chance that KC will move to another channel?

reply

I agree with all you people FOX needs to know what shows to cancel and NOT cancell such as Kitchen Confiental it was pretty funny along with Arrested Development...the last episode which I MISSED cuz of stupid FOX airing them the same night as the opening ceremonies of the Olympics...well i hope FOX doesn't ax 24..if they do i don't think i'll watch them anymore...American Idol was good for the first 3 seasons ONLY FOX!!but then it got boring so if they want to can something y not start with AMERICAN IDOL??? or any other 'reality' shows they have???

Thanks. I'm sure we are pretty aware of that. But I just wish programs like this were given more of a chance.

Way back when TV programs were given more of a chance (and the world itself was in less of a hurry), NBC's 'Cheers' debuted in '82. It finished 77th - dead last - in the Nielsen ratings. It eventually was an 11 year hit. But, it did have the championing of Brandon Tartikoff, then-NBC entertainment president, to give it another chance. I wish excutives at FOX would consider doing the same.
