Why Was This Show Ever Cancelled?

You look at the c**p on tv today and then watch Invasion; the show's quality really stands out yet ABC ditched it, unbelievable.
If only there was some way to reboot the series..........

Agreed. I thought this show was superior to a lot of programs at the time. Little reminiscent of the Body Snatchers.

reply

Unfortunately, some of the best series were canceled---either in one season or even after several seasons. But, I notice that a lot of the crap is still on in prime time. Thank God for VHS/DVD.

Nobody knows why this show get cancelled. I think the show was a victim of stupid expectations from ABC. The show had good numbers and critically acclaim but it has not the same hype of Lost at the time.

reply

I thought that "Lost" was a colossal bore.

Loved this show and I also thought Lost was a bore.

I was gutted when they cancelled this show as I was really enjoying it. If I remember rightly another show around the same time as "Invasion" was cancelled and people started a petition to get it reinstated, which worked. I then heard there was going to be a petition to have "Invasion" reinstated but I guess it never happened. Very sad.

reply

Funny because I thought Invasion was incredibly boring. I guess that's why it was canceled.

reply

I heard that they dropped advertising it because of Katrina and ended up hiding it in this and that time slot so no one (but us) knew about it.

reply

Perhaps now is the perfect time to continue the show, I cannot think of any current show save Penny Dreadful, Thrones and Wayward Pines thst comes close.

reply

Nah, I remember watching it coming on after Lost for the entire season. It wasn't really a great time slot for any show since it was verging on bed time for teenagers/young adults and those with day jobs.

reply

gone too soon

but low ratings killed it

reply

This series was to expensive to make at the time, I remembered that another channel was about pick the series up but then got price to make season and drop it too.

Had this series come to day probably not got cancelled, but 2009 really need to have more viewers for that cost.

reply

2006 I mean, not 2009.

reply

Can't see why, the majority of the show was about the human interaction which is always at the heart of the best sf. I recently re-watched Invasion and nothing currently except Penny Dreadful and Wayward Pines comes even close.

It is time for this great show to be remade in the new 12-13 episode per season format. Shawn's story could be laid out so well without having to add filler for 22 episodes. I remember at the time, he had season 2 already mapped out and ready to go. Shawn needs to shop this show around to Netflix and Amazon for a reboot. The story was incredible.

reply

They had some great actors in the cast who went on to success, and the production team were former actors too. Sean Cassidy, I think.

I agree this was a good, fun show. I never understood why it got cancelled. I still think about it and how much better than Falling Skies it was. I was sorely disappointed when it didn't come back on. The ending scene was so cool, and the show was creepy on an emotional level.

It's was quite a different show than Falling Skies, but yeah, I did enjoy Invasion a lot. I hate how the ending was just left with a big cliffhanger.

reply

Spoiler!!

I liked how the mother stopped loving her kids after she turned. And I don't remember if she knew that she had turned? Or did she just think that she was "different" after her accident? I remember that she knew that her feelings for her children were different, and she "tried" to go through the motions, but the kids knew too that something was off. That was cool. As a mom that would be horrifying to me, to suddenly not have love for my kids. That show had subtle, horrifying things like that. Too bad it was cancelled, as I would liked to have seen where Sean Cassidy was taking it.

Yeah, I don't know if she really knew how she had changed or not. At times it seemed like she was holding the truth back, but at other times it seemed like she didn't know what the truth was at all.
