First time viewing... season 4 is so bad.

I'm finally watching this show, and I enjoyed seasons 1-3. However, the fourth season is really, really bad. Like painfully so. Mainly because of the Jim/Sam storyline. What were JLH and the writers thinking? It's aggravating and repetitive, and I can't stand Sam. I'm trying to get through season four, but man, it's hard.

Is the last season even worth all this? I'm avoiding spoilers, too.

So, Jim's back mind wise circa 4x18? But still looks like Sam (who pales in comparison in the looks department, excuse my shallow-ness).

I agree with this. I just finished watching the entire series on Netflix. I hated Season 4. I actually really liked Season 5 and I wish it would have continued. Next time if I watch the series, I am just going to skip Season 4 completely and just go to 5.

I actually liked season 4. If they’d left Jim in limbo or turned him into Sam permanently, the whole thing would have been a bust for me but because they restored his memory in the end I liked the story arc and the way the two characters connected on an instinctive level even though Sam/Jim didn’t know why he was so drawn to Melinda. I guess because I also liked some of the stories they did during that time (I especially enjoyed their road trip), the goofy dead/not dead plot didn’t bother me as much as it seems it did other people. And the chemistry between David Conrad and JLH was one of the things I always liked about the show so as long as that was present it was all good to me.

As to season 5, a lot of people apparently really disliked the actor who played their son but I didn’t have any problem with him. And I thought they wrapped things up well in the finale.

I know I’m replying to an older message but I’m curious as to whether you continued watching through to the end of the show and what you thought of it.
