Andrea

Not sure why, but I just can't warm to her character. She just falls flat to me somehow, and doesn't ring true. I want to like her and feel like I should, but she just vaguely annoys me. It may be a problem with the writing I suppose. The actress that plays her is lovely and seems to have some talent. What are your thoughts?

I loved Andrea. I missed her when she was killed off.

Ha ha, I know everyone seems to love her.

I'm indifferent to her. Maybe if she had stuck around longer than 1 season I'd have liked her more. She was so freaked over the ghosts that I have a hard time picturing her coming to the rescue (ala Delia in Lost in the Shadows.)

Loved Andrea. Show was not as good without her. Never took to Delia.

I actually liked Andrea. Delia was the one who took a long time for me to warm up to.

You mean the Delia who first called Melinda nuts and that she should seek help and then how she was completely freaked out about how Ned helped Melinda and suggested that they should just leave everything alone, as if everything then would be just fine?

Nah, there i think that Andrea could have been a stronger character later on, with the extremely positive way she reacted, when Melinda told her how she could see ghosts and communicate with them. Shown in a back flash, when Melinda talks about Andrea and her first ghost, the very friendly elderly man who used to live in Andreas apartment.

Okay Andrea was a bit freakish about it some times, but she fully trusted and accepted Melinda and her gifts. Melinda was also the first person she called, when she had a second ghost experience, who turned out to be a former co-worker of hers.

So yah, i liked Andrea more than most of the time just annoying Delia.

Yep. That would be the Delia :-)

Melinda is no saint either. She's had a couple of "My way or the highway" moments with both Delia and Rick Payne.

*Stranglehold*

Rick: So go along with the lie or leave? That's your cue to say,"no, Rick, stay.
I value your judgment. Ok. For the record, I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I don't take back what I said about your father, because you're my friend, and he hurt you, and that's not ok with me.

Delia " I have to check my common sense at the door, or we can't be friends?"

To Eli: Am I a terrible person?
Eli: Why?
Mel" I'm relieved that he didn't recognize her, Because if he did, he might not be Jim. (and she's comforted by the fact that the car driver is calling them thieves "he saw what Jim did that's why he's calling us thieves.")

By the final eps of Season 4, she was fully on board. Even if she did get weirded out again after Bedford. But if I (or my kid or friends) had nearly been killed by something that I couldn't see let alone fight back against it would freak me out too.

So yes, all and all, I preferred Delia. If Andrea had stuck around for 2 or 3 seasons, my tune might be different.

I really liked Andrea. I thought it was mistake killing her. I just never warmed to Delia. She drove me up the wall. Then her kid aged about 20 yrs and that made everything even more ridiculous.

This show seemed to do something every season that ticked me off. Andrea situation. Payne leaving. The Jim/Sam utter debacle (that killed the show for me). The only good move they made was bringing in Jay Mohr and then he left.

Delia... yuck.

I'm revisiting this series again and am in the middle of the first season - my problem with the Andrea character is that I think the writers were trying to appease to the 'normal' viewing folk who are the type to to hum the twilight zone theme whenever something weird happens. You know....people who get uncomfortable if a situation becomes odd or spooky. A lot of folk like to keep things normal and predictable and enjoy small talk and their mundane lives that feel safe and normal.

To make sure this type of viewer was not put off by the offbeat plot of the series, they tried to create a balance between spooky and palatable when presenting each episode.

So here is a scene of Melinda encountering a ghost - enter Andrea who makes a jokey remark about how she's freaking out and could Melinda please maybe introduce her sometime to Mr or Mrs Ghosty...snort, giggle, wink wink nudge nudge....I just found her 'normality' and urge to keep things light very annoying....not that I loved Delia any better either. To be honest I believe they just didn't want a bestie character who would outshine Jennifer Love Hewitt....if so, they succeeded.

I always thought Andrea was cool with the ghosts, I remember her replying with "That is so... Cool!" when Melinda told her about seeing ghosts.

I liked Andrea better than Delia because Andrea never made Melinda feel like she did back in High School. Delia called Melinda different things, but basically she thought Melinda was crazy when she told Delia. And Delia made Melinda cry like kids did back in High School.

I did start liking Delia after that whole Jim/Sam thing and she was calling "Sam" Jim... Melinda is almost crying/laughing, then Delia says "What?" and Melinda says "You called him Jim" and Delia says "Well, that's who he is, right?" After she sees Sam at the basketball court and asked him What he was doing there, and he said "I feel like I needed to be here" Ned had just told Delia about playing basketball with Jim every week. That was an emotional scene.

I loved her too. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I saw she died. I have yet to watch the whole series because of this. I keep saying I'll watch it all but each time I just stop.

I absolutely love her and was crushed when her character was killed off. I was just shocked and speechless. I actually had to pause the show and walk away from it for awhile. My husband even asked me later what was wrong with me. Lol I’m still in shocked now years later. Why the writers did that is beyond me. Yes it’s good for ratings but I felt she was a huge part of the show. She was someone else Melinda could be open and honest with other than her husband. I myself see spirits and have all my life. I have yet in all my 40 years found a good friend who I can openly talk to about it well other than my daughter she too sees spirits. But still I’d love a good friend I can talk to about this stuff
